Cannot find my engine's stamped serial number

Small block experts,

I have the 289 engine out of my 1967 Fairlane 500 (which was totaled many years ago).
It has been overhauled and painted for a new project. So there are no bolt on tags left.
Now, to get the new vehicle inspected and titled (Nebraska), I have to find the engine serial number.
I found the Ford numbers for series, date cast, date built.

I understand that in 1967, the 289's were cast in BOTH foundries.
So I might have a wierdo as far as stamped numbers are concerned.
But where is the actual serial number?

BTW: I do not have the car's actual VIN. And the DMV has no record.

It is usually on the flat pad right in front of the bell housing mounting flange ,but i have seen 67 motors with no stamped numbers on the block

Thanks for the comeback.
Dang, I thought so too. I have looked at pics of other '67 blocks and the milled off bosses for stamps are a little different-looking than mine.
A '67 engine is a bit queer in that it could have been cast in either foundry. So there will be some possible differences.
The part that is really BS here is that I have a load of money in this engine.
And if I can't come up with the numbers, the DMV inspection is a fail!
I guess I'll keep stripping epoxy primer.

If it is there it will be the last 6 numbers of the vin of the car it came from
Some times the number is stamped on the edge of the bell housing mounting flange umder the bell housing

This is a 68 block and it actually has most of the vin stamped right behind the intake . If your block is a early 67 it probably was not stamped .what is the block number by the starter?

I will get those numbers for you tomorrow. The engine is on a stand in the shop in town. It's a 5 mile trip through drifts.
But anyway, the casting date was in '67, a few days before assembled date.

Howdy, Horse:

CAST: Valley numbers....289, 12, FoMoCo
CAST: Basic number.......C5AE-6015E
CAST: Cast date..............7B17 (1967 FEB 17)
STAMP: Assembly date.....7C3Z .(1967 MAR 03)

I was an aircraft inspector for many years. I'm fairly good at finding little numbers.

Nothing in that are at the aft end of the intake.
Nothing under the bell housing.

Early 67 so it was probably never stamped . A lot of cars have had motors changed ,especially old mustangs ,they should take this as normal when doing an inspection
