Cannot get an exhaust for a V6 Mustang:(???

Hey just bought a mustang, coupe, v6 2000 model. Took it to get an exhaust on it...garage guys told me it would sound like sh-t if I put one on.
What should I do and what should I say I need for it...??? I really want a race car sounding mustang...didn't realize it wouldn't sound well with an exhaust when I bought it.
Hey my excuse is that I am a girl...hahahaha

Custom made H-pipe or GT takeoffs with a good muffler (Mac Flowpath, Flowmasters).
Oh, and please get a bumper with the exhaust cut-outs cause those pipes coming from under the bumper look like crap.

That shop is full of it. Most people on these boards have duals on their sixers and it sounds good. I'm extremely happy with mine. Here's what you should do. You may want to find a different exhaust shop because they obviously don't want to do it there. Have an exhaust shop cut off your stock Y pipe after the cats, then fab up some 2.25" tubing to run back to two aftermarket mufflers. (Brand of your choice. I have flowmaster 40's and they are loud and aggressive sounding) Then run the pipes out, and throw on some chrome tips. I got all of that including labor and parts for $300. Don't pay too much over that.

Some companies make kits that bolt up to the stock Y pipe. This is another option. It doesn't give you true duals, but it will definately sound better than stock.

That's funny. There are a lot of V6's at my University with duals, and most of them use the stock bumper, and it doesn't really look like crap.
But I guess they can forget the extra Hp a new bumper gives you.

I've also never heard someone say that in person. It's always someone on this forum that has only ONE car to put money into.

You could look at MAC or Magnaflow. They make V6 mufflers. Spintech does as well.

well, the pipes from MAC and flowmaster would be bent to clear the stock bomper, so if you bought a new bumper, wouldnt they be nowhere near the GT holes? of course, thats all on the 99+ mustangs, the 94-98's never had cutouts for exhaust, lol. i have the stock cats and all in, and MAC dual cat back (with the mufflers in everything in powder silver, not black like the new ones. and 2 1/4 inche chrome tips from the mufflers on back =D and it sounds GREAT

order a pacesetter dual exhaust adapter and any gt mustang cat back you want get them to cut your stock Y pipe (where the exhaust pipes come together after the cat's) and weld in the pace setter adapter then just bolt up your cat back, this is recommended rather than having the shop fab up the exhaust so you can unbolt the cat back to work on the car or what ever, if you have the shop do all of the fabrication they will weld it all in... and you cant unbolt it....

cost should run around 300 for everything~ flowmasters sound perfectly fine as with any other kit out there, also check out spintech mufflers they have nice cat backs, it wont sound horrible.

btw the MACs will set you back a bit more than those. You can buy them for 299.99 through ebay WITH shipping included, with the hangars you need included, and install would be more. (btwthe packaging i got was very good, and everything was in perfect condition upon arrival) i wouldnt know how much, we did it ourselves, because my pop is a mechanic, 20 years this year, he works for Hunter Part And Service, so when you ever go into a shop to have something done, like the tires balanced, its a hunter machine (big and RED), and if your in Fairfield County CT, or Weschester county NY, my pop put it in, lol. ill shut up now

well shoot, waht do you need an exhaust for then? just cut your stock exhaust off before the cats hehe

first thing you need to do is find out waht mufflers you want, try to listen to your friends cars or look around on the net for sound clips like here but still thats not the same as in person... imo, i think the spintechs sound the most like the "race car" sound you want... i would get those if i didnt have a girlfriend who hates noise, lol but maybe ill get some one day

and yeah, people (a-holes) will tell you your v6 is gonna sound like crap, but dont listen to them, it will sound 100x better than thier camaros with v8s and rusted flowmasters, lol

Most exhaust sounds like crap on V6 mustangs. They are right.
There's a specific few that sound good.

It's only my opinion, it wasnt meant to insult or offend anyone who keeps the stock bumper on. To some, looks is just as important as horsepower. And this forum is not the only place where I speak my mind. At least you're right about the last statement, I can only afford one car at the moment. I still dont see the "funny" part about my post...

All kidding aside, GT Takeoffs and the right set of mufflers and you might like the results. I had used a catback system from Hooker Headers w/Flows on my 98 vert. Fooled enough V8 owners with the sound.

Find another shop.

Not true duals.....but check out flowmaster on www.summit.com. I'm very pleased with my cat back Y to dual pipes, and they were pretty cheap (350 for pipes and 60 to get them put on at the shop)

However much money you want to spend really decides how nice you want your car to sound.

Sorry, I think it's www.summitracing.com. I'm getting ready to put duals on my car, but I'm getting the GT bumper cover with cutouts for mine. My husband found a good deal for a OEM cover so once it arrives we will get it painted sonic blue. The catback is free because it's coming off my husbands Mach 1 because he's putting loud mouths on his.

Actually, my set up was true duals. The Hooker kit was 2.5" (too big for a six) involved cutting off the Y pipe about 2 inches from the O2 Sensors. The kit comes with the pipes that connect up to the remaining exhaust and connect in the middle creating an H pipe, which were connected to a set of Flowies, and out the back. I did it myself with a sawsall, basic tools and additional 3 exhaust hangers from Ford. Of course I took it to the local shop and spent $50 to weld it all up.

The kit cost me $200 w/shipping from Summit. I believe it also has been discontinued. The Chrome pipes it came with rusted real easy. It looked so much like crap that I had to cut the tips off and weld a pair of foot long 3" SS tips.

i had the ravin dual mufflers (sold through midas) on my 6 with turndows and sounded GOOD. After a while though, it was pretty noisy, so i went with flows.
