I want to start an engine build as a winter project. I thought I made up my mind to go with a 331 but thinking more and more about going the 351/393w route.

I know there are a ton of threads on 331/347 vs 351w, and I have read a lot of them. But, wanted to throw up a quick poll

Which would you go with and if you have time, explain why?

Things to keep in mind: This will be a street car, must be reliable as I would like to keep it as close to a daily driver as possible(not many miles a day). Looking to keep comp low as I already have a paxton sl sitting in my garage waiting to be installed. I would like a trick flow street top end kit, but may just put together a h/c/i combo. Want to make at least 350 hp, hopefully closer to 400 hp. Cant afford a dart block, etc. Also, bugdet in mind as I dont have a lot of money. Will buy parts in steps to finish it up.

Only mods on the car now are bbk shortys, magna x pipe/cats. Then of course the paxton sl still in the box. Like to know if anyone has put a 302 supercharger kit onto a 351w also?

Out of the above options: 351/393, EFI. Carbs are old tech, for a reason. :nice:

A 302 SC kit should fit a 351W based engine, but I almost wonder if it would have any clearance issues with the passenger side frame rail? Mine is awfully close with the 302.

Kinda depends on what your future plans are. Seems the cheapest route would be the 331 w/ SC. You can still run decent compression and have it drive almost like stock unless you are in the boost. Now if you start getting bored and want to significantly increase hp later on, the stock blocked 331 won't hold near as much as a stock blocked 393W.

no replacement for stroke! and blarg @ efi carbs are usaly good for a little more power from what ive seen and if you spray you will get a much better result plate for plate. of course im biased im building an aluminum 427 stroker for my notch HAHAHA (very slowly as in i have only the $3000 block)
