O.k so I was on my way from Beaverton to Portland this morning and went with no problems at all. Took care of my business and got back on the Sunset Highway and did not notice a single thing wrong with it at all.

About 3/4 of the way up the big hill past the zoo I look in my rearview mirror and notice quite a bit of light blueish smoke coming out of both pipes. I look down at my gagues and everything looks good, oil pressure up, coolant temp normal, fuel pressure good.

I let off the gas and get back on it and nothing....keep going and then got to the top of the hill by the cemetary and smoke starts coming out the back again. Look down gagues still good.....hmmmmmmmm

So I take the Cornell exit and pull into the AM/PM and pop the hood up and there's a bit of smoke under the hood but I see absolutely nothing and the car is not smoking. So I wait for about a half hour and fire it up and get back on the sunset heading towards Hillsburrito and about 15 mins later it smoked again...I am so confussed as I can't figure out what's going on and don't see anything under the hood that looks out of place and the motor runs like normal.

I drive a '92 Mustang LX with no major mods or anything at all other then headers.

The only thing i can think of is either your leaking oil on the exhust or the rings are bad? I had a leaking oil pan gasket and everynow and then when i got on it it would leak enough to blow oil on the headers and then see it out the back? peace

Well the smoke was strong out the back and a tiny bit out of the engine bay, almost none at all. The motor just turned 120k.

I really appreciate all the help.

Well, sadly my number one guess is rings.....You can still get mileage out of her if you keep the oil topped off but she's wearing down and is gonna need some work at the shop......

I have also posted it in another forum and they were thinking that it might be a clogged pvc and forcing oil where it's not suppose to go...??

I wouldnt think rings or guides would act like that.... once their bad, their bad. They wouldnt come and go, like your problem does (imho). I would think its something that can be "turned on and off" so to speak... like the PCV, EGR, the purge from the carbon canister, things along those lines....

OH, just fyi one way to narrow it tween rings and guides, is rings usually smoke under load, and guides usually under deceleration. (not always, but usually)

Also check the little things like valve cover gaskets, look under the car for oil or tranny fluid, check the dipstick isnt sticking out a little bit allowing the oil to be pulled up out the tube, etc....
Good luck,
Dave-

My car actually did something similar to that when I was at PIR. I was just finishing a run and letting off the throttle and it smoked like that when I was in neutral and coasting. It has not done it since though.

I would be VERY interested in seeing what you found as your problem though.
