Can't find anyone to cut my driveshaft

I got an aluminum driveshaft out of Crown Vic. I went to get it shortened and three of the top shops in town said they would not do it because the wall thickness is too thin. WTF?

They said that the Ford Motorsports shafts are impossible to weld. So what the heck am I supposed to do? Anyone heard of this BS?

How much do you need to shorten it?? What trans & yoke are you using??
Did you know that a C-4 yoke may be shortened 1.75" and used to adapt an AOD into a Mustang w/o shortening the driveshaft?? This let me use an Aerostar alau. DS in mine. Just an FYI.

Never heard of that. great info...any more details, pics (Aerostar years, engine, trans)?

Great, two of the shops said not to use an Aerostar driveshaft because it was too thin. Thats why I got the Crown Vic. I think it's just a scam. If I can weld 22 gauge steel without blowing it apart then they should be able to do aluminum. that is as thick as 14 gauge steel, right?

Oh and- "just have one made" $25 bucks for the Crown Vic shaft, and $100 to shorten/balance vs. $375 min to make one. Food for thought. I have a tight budget after a divorce and I am kind of bitchy too.

I pulled a driveshaft out of an aerostar once thinking I's use it. It had what looked to be a two piece tube that was swedged together in the middle. Looked like a weak link to me so I passed on it. If the crown vic one is solid, I'd keep looking for a shop that will shorten it.

another one is I think the newer F-150s I think they are 3.5 or 4" monsters lol.

I got my aluminum drive shaft built for just under 200 bux with new u-joints and new yoke. Try and find a shop that has a shaft already made around your size that is kinda dead wieght for them. Thats what I did.

On the other hand, you can try Wenco... I'm sure they will do it. Then again, Wenco is in Los Angeles where I live.

If you have a local mustang club, contact them. They will probably be able to recommend someone.

Give This guy a call. He did the work on my original shaft and I am very pleased with the work. 800 348 3915.
He talked me out of an aluminum one, stating that the origianll is plenty strong and is very light.
I think his name was Joe????
