Can't get car out of Park.!! (automatic)

Well I had a thread about my aftermarket anti-teft device not letting my car start, (it shuts the starter off). Anyways found out a wire was unplugged.

But, while we were rolling the car around in neutral (thought the battery was bad at first), we stopped for a second and put the car back in park to move something in the way of the car. Well now she won't get out of park. We have tried un hooking the positive cable from the battery and letting it relearn everything is fine now (since we replugged in the harness), but after starting the car she still won't budge out of park. Its like trying to move the shifter without your foot on the brake, except my foot is pushed hard on the brake.

HELP!!! It has to do with the security system I am sure cause this was all over an unplugged harness.

might be that brak shift interlock switch gone bad, had it go out on my 93 and it had the same symptons that it wouldnt budge outta park even with your foot on the brake

Don't know...it HAS to do with what went on with the anti-teft stuff. Like it wouldn't start so it eventully wouldn't let you take it out of park. Now she starts...

Did you work under the dash to repair the alarm system? If your brake lights aren't working, make sure your brake switch (under the dash) is connected.

No not really just saw the harness was unplugged by drivers side kick panal, the box it goes into is behind there.

If the brake switch is unplugged will it keep it from shifting? Not sure what to look for...I'll just go see if the lights work.

Might be a silly question, but have you tried to rock to car back and forth while trying to get it out of Park? That happened to me one time and moving it did the trick.

Just a thought.

Yeah first thing I tried was rocking it..no luck.

parking brakes work also.

It ha to do with the computer resetting after it thinking it was trying to be stolen...just can't figure out what to do/hit/press/anything, lol.

is the car on an incline? did u just shift the car into park and not apply the e brake first? that could be ur problem...having the weight of the whole car resting on the little pin for a parking gear in automatics............

worst comes to worse...just take the anti theft pos out

i didnt say keep it out tho....put it back in when its fixed...and after...dont friggin mess with it...and btw...why do u have anti theft crap? if u dont have any gun turrets that come out of ur car...its not gunna stop a theif...u think a theif is gunna stop taking a head unit out of ur car cuz of a few bells and whistles? by the time someone sees a theif and calls the cops...the dude is long gone with what he wanted...lol and if its a convertable..forget about it lol

i strongly do not believe in anti theft...just like with a house...lets lock the door so someone can throw a rock through the window and still be able to get into your house....someone in my area had their car stolen off of their property with the use of a flat bed...if someone wants ur car or something in it theyll grab it..i say u should have put ur money towards something else...return it! lol

sorry thats my rant and $0.02 for the day

Geez why don't people read the entire thread before they reply :nonono:

He bought the car used and the unit was installed by the original owner.

BigNutt,

I would see if you can contact the previous owner and find out who installed the unit and exactly what make/model it is. I looked at the site you posted in the other thread and don't see anything that would affect the transmission. Sounds like the install might have been done by a hack. It is also possible though that this is an entirely separate issue, hard to tell from the information we have thus far.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

whats ur point? he could have taken it out when he got the car...but he kept it in thinking it was a good idea so whats wrong with what i said previously?

YOU ARE way out of line and obviously can't read. I just got the car 12 hours before it did this and was never told about the anti-theft devise. I haven't added anything on the car! It was put on by the original owner and the second owner has never had any issues with it, well there still are no issues, I accidentally unplugged it with my foot.

lol okay...but in ur post it doesnt say anything aobut u jsut getting the car tho lol its prob in ur other thread somewhere on stangnet where i have no idea where it is lol

im not tryin to be a diak but basically im just sayin rip the thing out...its giving u too much trouble and not worth having it getting u stuck out in the middle of nowhere...just have a friend help u rewire the stuff that its connected too..it seems that this system was not installed properly

You can't just rip a starter kill system out. Most of them will interupt the starter and will not start again until repaired.
