cant get my dist out....

stock vacuum advance dist.....

in a 302...

I removed the hold down...i have pulled, twisted, turned....usually they come right out. Whats the correct procedure for removing the dist?

Pull and yank as far as I know. I had a problem getting the dist. out of my 460. Turned out the part that the oil pump drive shaft went into had mushroomed and wouldn't let the dist. slide out. I had to take care of it with a BFH. I'll keep my fingers crossed that isn't what happened to yours.

Did you forget to put the engine at TDC (top dead center)?

even if the motor wasn't in TDC it would come out.

Let me guess hardened input shaft?

Get a set of pry bars one on each side and pry it up evenly.


Don't be afraid there is nothing to break if you grab the distriburator from the metal part.

I will try it tomorrow. I have never had a problem with the darn thing coming out. I am pretty sure it has a hardened gear on it because it has a late model roller cam in it.

Oh no I was refering to the shaft on the oil pump.

I have always had problems while using them.
