Cant get the door trim off!

How is the door trim held on?? Is it glued, bolted from the inside, on a track... I have no idea how to get it off and i dont want to break it!

You might want to specify better by what you mean when you say door trim.
Do you mean the Large molding thats on the center of the outside door skin?

The large moulding (middle of door, runs all around the car) is held on with double sided sticky (accept for the far front and rear pieces, they're bolted on). The piece at the top/outside of the door (below window) is held on with plastic parts riveted to the door. You remove the screw rear of door under the lip, then the trim slides back a few inches to the notches and comes right off.

its the one in the middle of the door that im talking about... so it is just stuck on there? I didnt want to go pry it off if it was bolted on. lol... whats the best removal method?? And can i use the same method for removing badges??

you can use a piece of wire to saw back and fouth to take them off, it's just 2 sided tape, the only prob is that they have a metal backing that will make it curl up like a pig tail when you take them off, get a body shop to heat gun the metal strips of then they can be put on straight again. I went through this when I restored my car.

Thanks for the advice!! So far, im really happy with the shape of the metal under the bodykit. When i took the side skirts off, the sheetmetal was pretty much rust free!! I was soooo happy! Although then entire mounting rail for the driver's side skirt was COMPLETELY gone and all that were left were rusty rivets. LoL

you can get those brackets from the local Ford dealer, Eastgate Ford on Parkdale in Ham. and Mohawk Ford on upper gage in Ham. are where I got mine. I remembered that you told me you live in the area. You will be really impressed on how you ground effects look when they are re-hung

Will a blowdrier work for melting the tape!? I remember my dad using that for removing decals on his 87' 4-Runner... but this is a little different.

just get some vice grips, get a hold of one side and give 'er hell... she'll come off pretty quick...haha jk use a heat gun and tha techniques everyone else said, should come off fairly easily

use a metal spatula, I work at a body shop and thats what we use

I removed the metal from mine before reistalling, so they'd be nice and straight. If that metal gets bent any it will show with them back on. They tend to look wavy if you don't get them off just right.

I used a putty knife between the moulding and the body when I did mine and the moulding came right off.

Make sure you remove the thin metal piece on the backside of the moulding.

To remove the thin metal strip use a heat gun and a pair of vice grips by slightly heating up a corner on the thin metal, once you get the corner started you just keep the heat in front of you as you pull the metal strip with the vice grips.

what you should do is once you get the molding off get a propane torch and heat it up and slowly strip the metal off the molding a little at a time making sure you do not burn the plastic. after that clean the molding with laquer thinner and apply with double sided tape.

thanks again for the advice! luckily im having the car painted so i dont need to worry about scratching anything, as long as i get the trim off without damaging it or bending it i'll be happy! A torch will work on it? i'll have to try it out. Hopefully i wont burn anything :S

I 3rd using heat and removing the metal strip, works like buttah
