cant remove export brace spinning boltz

I am having problems removing the upper mount for the shocks on a 1965 mustang the bolts are spinning, the ones with the heads between the spring and the shock tower. what is the best way to get them off with out having to remove the spring. thanx

Normally, I cuss. A lot. LOL

If you can push up on the head of the bolt with a bent screwdriver (or whatever) it should help as these are basically carriage bolts. Pushing up should allow the square part of the bolt head to engage the slot a the top of the shock tower.

If that doesn't work, try welding a nut to the head of the bolt, you'll ruin the bolt, but then again, it's likely ruined anyway.

I have used a bent screwdriver to push up the bolt against the shock tower and sometimes that helps it grab the edge so it can be removed.

Ditto on the screwdriver--I have even used a hammer to tap the screwdriver in further to hold the bolt up into place so I could loosen the nut.

We had to resort to grinding the nut off with a die grinder

Whats up Chris???? I usually just pry up on the shock tower and it pulls the carrage bolt up and puts pressure and they usally keeps it from spinning.

Hey Mario howzit? Well the engine in my fastback finally died so I got a 347 on its way , and I am making room in the engine compt. The last motor was built in 1991 for 1092.00 @ team c haha over a decade!! Chris

well it took the bent screwdriver (I used small snap on pry bar) and hammer method to get them out . thanks again
