Well heres how it went, I have only had my car (95GT) for 6 months. When I first bought the car it ran excellent. It had good power and would climb the rpms fast and could also smoke the tires without trying. But it pinged a little so I had the idea to back the timing off a little. Ever since I messed with the distributor the car has lost alot of power. When I noticed the power loss I disconnected the spout connector and attemted to move the distributor back to stock 10 degrees. But when I did it still lagged big time. So I put new spark plugs in, New fuel filter, New cap and rotor button, cleaned MAF, Flushed coolant system, seafoamed it. And it still did the same thing. I should have never touched the distributor. What could be causing this? The check engine light also comes on when I hold the pedal to the floor going down the road. It does exactly this..... The rpms jump good and has good power from idle to 3000rpms and anything over that it just falls on its face like it dosent want to go anywhere. I mean its bad, you can sit there and watch the needle on the tach when it hits 3000 the needle just basically stops going any further like somethings holding it back. The car is bonestock except for exhaust. What could be my problem????????

I bet your coil is the problem. Not enough power in the upper rpms. It can keep up under light loads and low rpm but just keels over at higher rpms. Has happened to a few others here with the same symptems as you are describing.

I'm definately gonna have to go with the coil. If it doesn't go past 3000, and knowing the fact that this happened after messing with your timing, then chances are its something electrical.

Just for kicks and giggles....try setting your dizzy at 12 degrees and see if that helps you out at all.

I'm thinking it might be possible that the person who owned the car before you may have messed with the dizzy and bumped the timing up a good bit.

good luck

The timing was set at 10 degrees before I messed with it. I have done tried to set the timing at 11-12-13-14 degrees and it still does it. But it helps it a little but not much, but I cant leave it at 13-14 degrees because it pings like crazy with 93 octane. Could it be O2 sensors going bad? Another thing that I noticed is if I am going down the road and floor it and get up to about 4500 rpms and shift it pops and shoot flames out the tailpipe what could cause this????

Unburnt fuel in the exhaust. Weak spark. Try the coil yet?

that means your wayyyy too rich. Prolly fuel from where you aren't getting spark as jj95gtid said.

another thing to check...maybe your getting the right amount of spark....but you are getting way too much fuel from your injectors.

Try a KAM reset and see if that helps any (diconnect neg. battery cable and turn on lights for 10 secs)
