Car Broke Tongight After Running At the Track!

Well, I had a BAD day! I drove my car to work this morning and noticed I heard an exhaust leak. I had a muffler shop look at it, and my NEW ford racing shorty on the drivers side cracked. They welded it up temporarily, but the car didnt feel right you know. I went to the track tonight since it was gonna be my first run on the 3.55s, but I just had that feeling you know. I ran a ok 60ft (1.9) but the car quit pulling after that and I ran SLOW! a 13.5 to be exact when I was running consistant 13.2s on the 2.73s. I noticed after the run the throwout bearing was clattering. I JUST put the NEW spec stage 2 in it 1 week ago and I was pissed that the crappy plastic bearing was junk. I made it about halfway home with it making more and more noise. I got to where I work when the car got stuck in gear accelerating from a redlight and I couldnt depress the clutch pedal until the bearing shattered to pecies. The car is stuck on the side the road with either a destroyed clutch or a destroyed TO bearing! THIS SUCKS!

man i'm sorry to hear that but hey it's a opportunity to get something a bit beefier now. on a side note, you may want to see if they carry any kind of warr. on their clutches certainly couldn't hurt to check

the ford shorties are a waste if you havne't figured that out yet. i know it doesn't help much now but EVERYONE who has them that posts here has had cracking problems.

Do yourself a favor now and ditch them man. A set of bassani mid length or bbk full lenght's will make you MUCH happier.

As far as your clutch goes, that's odd because I've never heard of spec's stuff doing that.. see if there's any warranty stuff and if they refuse to do anything, throw a RAM HD clutch in there.

Is it just me or was that stupid? Ok your car is not running right then you take it to the shop to have the exhaust looked at. You have a brand new shorty header that is cracked. So they rigged up some "temp. weld". Obviously not a good fix and you should have it replaced and then you decide hey let's go race at the track and see if I cant break the crack open some more running at high rpm's and running massive amt's of air thru those headers and you end up breaking your clutch....not very smart

Yes i also have the FMS shorties and I will vote that they suck. No cracks but why spend a couple hundred bux on headers that are just as good as your stock manifolds....I dont know they were supposed to be good when they first came out and i bought the car like that thinking they were good but now im just wishing i had the $$$ for full lengths

I had the same problem with the Spec Stage 2 TOB...

If you just installed the spec stage 2 clutch a week ago... shouldn't you have held off going to the track till the clutch was properly broke in?

That is why I sold my Spec clutch before I installed it.

Well, I took it down tonight and guess what broke? The clutch disk is in 3 pecies. THIS SUCKS! I dont know what to do now, should I email spec or email the vendor? (

Dude I thought SPEC clutches were supposed to be the 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me'nit??? Guess im glad I spend LESS on the old school centerforce. Guess they still are the best huh ? Well that sux man. What I would do is call spec and tell them you got a broken clutch it broke it 3 pieces and you only put 500 miles on it like you said. Go through the vendor first and if they dont take care of you then you'll have to go directly to spec. Let us know how it goes

I use the Centerforce Dual Friction too TO bearing still squeaks every now and then, though

I still have the stock one...this is my 3rd one, though. From what I hear, the TO bearings that Centerforce carries are not better than the Ford ones. Like I said, that is just what I have heard....I'll probably end up going with Centerforce or other brand eventually

I had the centerforce bearing in my old 5.0 , it made noise , replaced it with ford one and it made just as much noise , HUH makes ya wonder , i just got used to it , both were in it forever thru ONE clutch and never had a problem , just a little noise
