car dies unexpectidly

I have an MSD ignition system, (blaster coil, wires, cap, box6AL, and rotor). My car will just die like I turned the ignition off or something. It won't start back up either. So I narrowed it down, but it makes no scence to me. I bought the harness adaptor so I don't have to cut into my stock harness to plug into the blaster coil. What I do is unplug the stock harness from the MSD harness and then plug it right back in and my car will start right up again. If I don't do that my car wil not start. Has anyone experienced this problem before? Does anyone know what I could try to do to fix it. I have run out of ideas.

I am having the same problem, but its in my wiring harness. My car wouldnt start yesterday, but I need to re-wire my MSD box and assoc. wires. My friend had the same problem and he just cleaned the contacts and its been fine every since

I guess my first step would be to insure that none of the wires on the adapter harness you have are broken, frayed, shorting, not fully engaged with the connector, etc.

Just out of curiosity, do you know if by chance this coil has some sort of a protection feature built in? Like maybe a high-voltage or high-temp shutoff switch? And by unplugging it then plugging it back in, you're reseting it?

I haven't dealt with MSD, but I would imagine if you call up their tech support they may be able to give you a couple of other ideas. Maybe you just need some di-electric grease on there.

MSD box is highly suspect if you disconnect it and then reconnect it. Other than that I would look very closely at the wiring, especially the wiring that supplies the power to the MSD box. If possible, use a DVM to measure the voltage at the MSD box to make sure you are getting full voltage to it.

The stock harness plug is kinda broke. The wires dont clip in anymore they just slide in. I am thinking that would be the problem. I will try the DVM too! Any idea how many volts need to be going to it. I would imagine 12v or better. As far as the blaster coil having a heat switch, I have no idea. A few times that the car shut off it was within minutes of me starting the car. So I am thinking that heat is not an issue. I'll call MSD too, to see what they have to say

my car was doing that turned out to be my new msd distributer tfi i think ...dropped the stock one in and i fired up
