Hey,
I got the 5.0 302 engine, and it keeps dying on me after running for a little bit. I can drive it for a little bit, but then it dies. I can best describe it as the engine "choking off." Its not over heating, and the temp gauge appears to be working fine. My friends say it could be a number of things, cat clogged, fuel pump shutting off after it gets too hot, or the fuel injection module thing or whatever shutting off after it gets too hot. How can i diagnose this problem and find out what is wrong with my car so that I can be on the road again w/o having to plan for short 10-15 minute trips everywhere?

I would start by pulling the codes.

It could be a number of things, yes. Read these 2 articles that Wells MFG wrote on the TFI module as well as the PIP. The symptoms you are decsribing are very similar to the ones in the article. They are long and have a lot of techinical terms in them, but they make for good reading for everyone. Don't forget to update the thread after you have fixed it just in case anyone else is having the same problem.

I think Tim is on the right track with lookin at the TFI or PIP (i would say TFI first).

when it dies, what are you missing - fuel or spark?
FWIW, unlike a lot of Chevies, we dont have a FP cut off for low oil pressure or high temps. the computer dials back timing when it reaches 242*F but that is about it.

good luck.
