Car Dying On Freeway And Power Loss

So i was on my way home from a meet when all the sudden my Car starting acting like it was running out of gas at 75 MPH. I would rev it and it would slowly rev, etc. So i put some gas in it, and it continued to die on the freeway. At one point i dropped it into third at sixty and stepped on it and the car did nothing for about 3 seconds then all the sudden the car kicked in like nitrous would for example. Is my fuel pump going out?

that could be a likely cause. change the filter first, but you are probably past the point of no return.

I would check fuel pressure, pull the codes, etc.

could be your fuel filter, or has it been changed lately?

Yea i changed it about 4-5 months ago.......

The car is idling at about 1200Rpms now as well.

Fuel pressure Guage says about 38 at WOT

I dont know if this has anything to do with this but i recently took out my wheel wells because they were cracked broken etc, but when this started happening it was pooring down rain. Does the wells being out have anything to do with it?

eliminating the wheel well covers isn't a problem, they are basically use to stop things that fly off the tires from denting the fenders.

+ 1 on the fuel filter. mine started to go. when it got hot, the car would die, if i let it cool down, i could drive a bit again. another possibility may be engine bearings. something like that happened to me and thats what it ended up being. hows the oil pressure?. hope its not though! REBUILD!

Fuel Filter was replaced few months ago. Oil Pressure looks Good. I just ran some Lucas oil Injector cleaner and problem is still there. I guess i should change the fuel filter first before i go and buy a Pump.

Most likely it is your fuel pressure regulator. That sits right on the fuel rail and controls how much fuel pressure their is. Has happened to me on both my 86 GT and my F150. I would start there before replacing anything. Someone said check your fuel pressure--do that if you can. If you can't, change the fuel pressure regulator. They are about $35 at Autozone.

The car has an Aeromotive FPR.

At idle Fuel Pressure is 28

And at WOT 32-24

How do i adjust the Fuel pressure on the Regulator?

I believe its the fuel pump. Fuel pressure is only 32-34 WOT

I plan on doing some sort of power adder very soon anyways so whay Fuel pump should i get?

when mine went, it started making a different noise too when i turned the key forward. i don't think you can really go too big with a fuel pump, and they isnt really much price difference... so i'd def. go big if you're planning a power adder. i have a walboro 155 and its worked good for me. but maybe someone can correct me if i'm wrong on any reason why not to get a bigger pump?.

When my fuel pumps have gone bad the car (or truck as the case may be) would barely run or die completely.

It did that a couple times. But lately none of that. But it still runs like shi*.

Ok so the car doesnt die anymore but like i said it hasnt been raining here, and when it was raining, the car would die. Weird i know.

The car is idling anywhere from 950-1200 Rpms And fuel Pressure is 27PSI at idle, and 34-36 WOT.

Shoud i give the fuel filter a try? How do i adjust fuel pressure on my Aeromotive regulator?

A fuel pump can read just fine when cool and no load on it, ie at idle. You have to test it when warm and load on the engine. Hook up the gauge and drive it down the road with the gauge out from under the hood so you can watch it. If it drops under load, then there is your problem.

Yes the FP Drops under a load.

I have a Walbro 255 Going in tmmrw. Hopefully that solves the problem.
