car is spitting/popping. Help Please.

Can someone help me out, my 98 GT has been acting funny. She drives fine under normal driving, but if i go full throttle, she starts spitting, somewhat of a popping or backfiring, and does it pretty bad.

I'm going to be looking at it tonight after work, so far, this is what i've narrowed it down what the problem MIGHT be.

-spark plugs/wires

-o2 sensors

-I think i hear an exhaust leak, because there is a slight ticking ever since I swapped out the o/r X with the stock H for emission reasons.

Im guessing it might be an o2 sensor, since it was a p.i.t.a. for me to tighten then properly (the ones closer to the headers) because of the lack of tools i have.

If anyone can give me any more pointers, or help me pin-point this problem, it will be a great help.

You've got a good start. Usually the plug wires are bad culprits for hessitation issues. Check all they you have listed and report back. Fix the exhaust leak as well.

Check your codes as well.

I checked with my Predator handheld, and nothing came up besides the things ive had overriden and turned off manually. I dont even have a check engine light engaging.

Check out the plugs first....that would be your best bet

Everyone is right. Plugs/Wires have always been the culprit for the missing and spitting. My old 96gt..RIP.. i had had this same problem so i just did some oem wires and some plugs and it was like new again. Also just another thing to check is maybe the gap of the plugs.

Just had this problem. Swapped out platinum plugs for some autolite coppers, get rid of the coil packs and installed some c.o.p.s and replaced a faulty injector connector that was causing a random misfire. she runs like a champ now.

no, i already have a full pi swap, manifold is perfectly fine. Manifold wouldnt cause this kinda problem.

Really it wouldn't? Because I have a full PI swap to which has nothing to do with cracking the manifold because they can both crack and I had the same issues as you describe. Guess I don't have a clue what I am talking about

i assure you, it is not the manifold.

quick update btw, changed out the spark plugs. Picking up new ford 9mm wires (blue) right now. and fixed the lil ticking from the exhaust. Took it off, used hi tempature seal for reassurance, still havent started her yet though.
