Kettering. OH
OK, everything done to the car is in my sig, we just completed all this a few months ago and it started doing this crap a little after. Sometimes I can be driving and it runs great, and then all of a sudden it seems to just stop getting any power. It doesnt die, it just stops accelerating. Doeasn't matter if it's hot or cold, wot, part throttle, any gear and any rpm. It will do this frequently every time I drive it and it never happens at any given time. I can have the pedal to the floor and the car just doesnt move anymore and starts backfiring slightly (it doesnt always do the backfire thing and it is minor when it does) I relocated my battery to the hatch when I built my motor and I relocated all of the wiring from the engine bay to under the fender wells. I took the grounds that went directly to the battery and grounded them to the frame under the driver's fender. I think I may have a wiring/sensor issue but everything looks copesthetic. Oh yeah, I have new plugs, wires, cap&rotor, and have checked tps and even switched out my dist. and tfi module with a friend's, ,no difference. One O2 sensor is brand new, other is stock. Not sure if the map sensor could cause this. I switched my computer with a friend's a while ago and just now went to actually mount it up and I dont remember if it bolted in or not. The ground wire there is attached and the puter is just stuffed up in its little hole, it doesn't move. I'm just trying to give you guys an idea of what I have done and what I have checked and what isn't the way that ford made it. I am so desperate that I would have anal sex with a slimy-assed camel if I thought it would fix my car. Please help me out.

You must have a problem with a sensor or the wiring to it.Have you run a code scanner?Since it is not all the time it is somethin that is either on its way out or not connected properly.

I would start out by checking two things that are easy to check and cost nothing - Check to make sure the EGR valve isn't sticking (they can get full of carbon really quick). I've had a similar problem and this was the cause. I would also check fuel pressure too. Good Luck!

My egr isnt hooked up, well the elctronics are but the vaccum line isnt because I have it blocked from my lower intake gaskets. I've already scanned codes and there isnt anything out of the ordinary. Thanks for the suggestions, keep 'em coming! Oh yeah, my fuel pressure is set at 38 psi with vacuum line off.

How's your fuel pressure? When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? I once had my car stall out at idle because my air filter was clogged up, but that was only at low rpms for me.

Good luck.

Fuel filter was changed recently, as was the fuel pump. Pressure is at 38 psi with vac line off. Air filter is not clogged, the severeness of this is way different from a simple filter. It doesnt just stall, it seems like all of a sudden I just lost about 6 cylinders and then all of a sudden everythings back on. Thanks for the ideas. Anyone else?

Timing is at 12 degrees, I've even tried a different distributor. Could it be because I have one brand new O2 sensor and one factory sensor?? Come on guys, I was hoping for like 20 responses by now, please help if you can.

i have the same problem. while i drive the rpm drop, and there's no power, like the car was shut off. but then the rpm go up and has power. the only thing with mine is once that happens and i turn the car on, it won't start up again. i need to jump it. but it has juice in the batt. it just doesn't have enough to start up.the batt is not even 2 weeks old., new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and coil.
the only thing i can think of is the alternator is acting up.

Too many people are so easy to jump to a conclusion that if your car runs bad or something isn't right and you have speed density, then Mass air will solve your problems... Are any of you actually reading his post? he has checked everything and so have I.. we have been through this car a million times. It is not throwing any codes except the smog sensors we removed which aren't the problem. It ran like this badly when we first started it after all the work we did. We tried my factory computer and it seemed to solve it untill the next day. anyone one have a clue?? something besides " convert to mass air it fixes all"

Did you replace the harness for the altenator? Check that and all I can say is do the famous Ford wiggle test on all necesary wiring, even that alt. harness, and watch for rpm, voltage, and fuel drops...oh and if you still have an oem o2 sensor, REPLACE IT!

OK, I'll try checking all my wiring again. Yeah, just "switch to mass air" is a dumb idea when I have a problem already. Dude, I dont want to add more conversions on top of problems and add more crap to my list of things to check. Seriously, please, reread my posts as I stated I AM NOT SWITCHING TO MASS AIR UNTIL THIS IS FIXED BECAUSE IT WILL NOT HELP. Thanks for everyon'es posts, keep em up please.

Shoot, there are a BUNCH of us WITH mass air that have this same problem...should we switch to speed density?
