car or college?

I waited until I was done with college and my wife was done with college before I started messing with Stangs again- (I always played with them in high school)

You can check out my sig to see if I made the right decisions-

100000000% school- in fact I would probably sell the Stang and buy a better beater- then when you graduate you can buy a better rust free car to start with

Concentrate on school for now. At the very least, it will save you from having to listen to your parents gripe at you ... I still get bitched at by my mom for all the money I spent on cars since I had a 69 Mustang, 75 CJ 5 and 77 F150 (all lifted) when I was in college. I spent so much just keeping the damn things running, especially the Jeep and truck.

Over the years since I bought the car, I have put so much work into building the car that this is the only real problem left with it. The body is straight, I completely rebuilt the front end, built an engine and now a rear end. The interior is a work in progress but when finished will be awesome. As of now I would not and could not sell the car, that is not an option. I have nearly 15000 invested and at the moment could not expect to see even what I paid for the car originally (6000) so selling it makes no sense. She is my first love and I can make it with what I have now. I have some money so a decent winter beater is not a problem (in the area of 4000 for a beater). My parents also have a huge barn with three stalls on one half and 3 on the other with 14 foot ceilings so storage is not a problem. I guess for now, I am going to clean up all my parts, try to sell what I can (I have a huge stockpile of things removed including a drivetrain and half of the interior) and put the cover on it so I can focus on my school.

As for mustang clubs, does anyone know of any in the Grand Haven, Michigan area? Thanks for everyone's input

I'm a student but in a different situation. I managed a research assistant position while working on my masters (Phd if I get ambitious) so they pay me to go there, although certainly not enough to fund my car. My problem is it has me more distracted than anything else. I am supposed to be doing research, running tests on thousands of samples (stabilization/solidfication of Pb and W in firing range berms - for any enivornmental engineers out there), plus doing my classwork. This warrants 7 days a week worth of work but somehow I find myself spending every weekend turning some wrenches on the fastback. Undergrad I only saw the car in the summer the first two years and not at all the later years - that was a much better plan!

351Carlo - Drexel Univ? I did a couple years hard time there before transferring.

My last mustang, prior to the 1 I have now, a 1973 Mach 1 I had to sell to pay tuition - as hard is it was - best decision I ever made. Got a 70 fastback now that I can do the way the want now that I'm done with school and have some cash.

LONN17, funny you bring up Drexel. I am a University of Delaware Honors student (I pay for everything myself, so an in-state school was the only way to go) but my girlfriend of 2 years did attend a few semesters at Drexel.

You'll be glad to hear TDEC (the old engineering program) was completely eliminated this past year. They finally got the hint that they were turning too many people away from a career that is really not as rigorous as the education made it seem.

Stay in school. It's like a good poster I once saw, "Justification for a higher education" It's a house, most likely off the coast of Florida or California (Appears californian from the architecture but you never know) with a nice multi car garage in the foreground filled with exotic sports cars. Over the horizon the sun is setting and you think.....''damn, they're right.''

Sure, you can spend a few bucks on your car every paycheck with the 10/hr you're making. Or wait 4-5 years and spend a few bucks on your car every paycheck when you're making 30+/hr. It'll be a lot less to you in the future.

man I hope to be making more than 30 an hour. I am currently a junior and have just been notified that my transfer from the University of Michigan to Grand Valley State University has given me the pleasure of being a sixth year senior in a couple of years. Hopefully I will do pretty well as a mechanical engineer because I am hoing to spend the next couple of years in school hell.

Your going to spend $4000 on a beater? You can get a pretty decent car for $4000. I don't think a car that costs $4000 is classified as a beater. Stick with school, it's all about what happens in the long run. I'm a college student now and it's hard not buying parts anymore. All I can do is look. I can't wait until I get my mechanical engineering degree and start making money. Best of luck to ya!
