I took the car out of storage recentely... and compared to like the last time I drove it, it's running a half a second slower in qtr mile from last year--b4 i do anymore serious driving, any ideas on what's causing it to go slower?

like, it wasn't a gradual think.. one of the last things I did last year was race a colbalt /w my gtimer... 14.8 with that, and now this year one of the first things I did.. was race him again :p and he beat me, and my gtimer was showing me 15.4 and he beat me by a few car lengths...

its a 96 gt

i changed the oil/filter, flushed the radiator (well, got a new one ;x)

fuel lines no, injectors no... does that injector cleaner **** actually work?

im thinking the injectors might be ****ing with it aswell, cus everyone once in awhile, it will lag/jerk when i put the foot on the gas (not that noticeable, but its there sometimes)

just trying to figure out what else before I go buy parts today.

Hows the air filter? A dirty air filter will kill your hp. Also, how old is the gas you are running now? Gasoline looses octane as it sits, and leaves a varnish if it sits for too long. Get some fresh stuff in there, and try again.

ive had a few goes at premium in the last week... i replaced the air filter with a brand new k&n...

its somethign that would happen from it just sitting, because like i said it ran perfect before i stored it, and as soon as i took it out, with premium fuel, oil change, air filter.. it runs half a second slower....

Well how about the driver?
Just a couple extra tenths in the 60' could easily add a half second in the quarter. Seems to me that just something simple as a different grade of pavement, weather conditions and the imperfect driver could add a half second or more.
More telling for the cars output, did the trap speed change?
Last time I went to the track, my best was a 14.675 and the worst a 15.066 (that run had about 70lbs less on the car). That's a .4 second change on the same night, with the same weather conditions, on the same track with the same gas, and the same everything except the driving and the 60' time. On top of all that, the slower run had 70lbs less in the trunk, so it trapped .4mph faster.

Show me better proof that the car is slower than before.

its not driver related. its always dry , and i have better tires than last year. weight? the same

i can feel it in my car, and its the same with people around town. my top speed is also 25 km/h slower. before i'd top out at 230, now its 205

there was no gradual downfall, or bagging involved. its taken care of, the last week before i parked it, i tested the top speed and raced a few people. this last week i tested the top speed, raced those same people and it tells me all the same. whatever is making it slower, happened over storage.

driver maybe??? maybe you juss need to drive it for a short period of time so u can get ur techniques of driving the car good again?? i know when i stopped driving my car for a month.....i needed to get used to driving it good again.....

Perhaps it is a dirty/clogged fuel filter. I personally would change the fuel filter and get some injector cleaner if you haven't changed that in a while. Maybe plugs???

Well here's what I think, don't know if it's worth anything but I do have a bit of experience with engines and storage. Did you use gas stabilizer before storage? If not you probably have dirty/varnished fuel injectors and crap in the fuel lines. I recommend 2 cans of fuel injector cleaner into the tank immediately and then another can in the next 2 tanks of gas. Change the fuel filter now, don't wait any longer, especialy if you didnt last year. I'd recommend anyone that stores a car for months at a time change the fuel filter before they even start the car in the spring. If any water at all sat in the fuel filter while the car was stored your likely to have rust/mineral build up in the input side of the filter which will clog it up. Since you said you changed the air filter I wont tell you to look for mice nesting in the intake. And the most obvious one to me is you changed something on your car...tires are different and even though you say they hook better, if everything else proves ok then the thing you changed is the only possible cause

Did you put any kind of fuel stabilizer in when you stored it? When I let my car sit over the winter I did have about 1/2 a tank of gas with Sta-bil in the tank. I would go out about every 3 weeks start it and let it run for about 20-30 min and warm up all the way. I changed the fuel filter after I took it back out cleaned the K&N and haven't had any problems.

I'd go with getting a new fuel filter, change that, do some fuel cleaner/seafoam to get the junk out of the system there and maybe do another filter after a few tanks of gas have been run though.
