Car running funny, AFR all over the place

if you had a gauge with a digital readout you would see whats really going on. anyways i'm done trying to help. if you would like to try to convince someone of something just b/c your gauge doesnt move go ahead.

bottom line: mine is tuned right, the AFR jumps around, same goes for many other cars.

good luck finding your problem, (which is most likely fuel related)

That's you opinion. Personally, for me, it's much easier to glance at an analog gauge and comprehend the AFR value. A digital readout ends up being a bunch of blinking/flashing lights (which is probably what you wanted anyway).

Thank God.

Again, I'm speaking from experience that is pertinent to the thread starter's situation. Your "you obviously have no idea what i drive, do you?!?!?" car doesn't pertain to this situation. So, if YOU'D like to try to convince someone of something just b/c your gauge is "all over the place", go ahead. Just be sure to share your list of mods with them, so they understand that they are likely nowhere near comparing apples to apples.

Great, we're all happy that you're happy. But you stated it yourself, "well FWIW i have also checked 2 other cars with widebands and the AFR was between 12.5 and 16 at idle. both cars were FI (s/c and turbo)". All you have established here is that cars with FI have a bouncy AFR at idle.

Yep, just as I figured. You get off jabbing at kids smaller than you all the while touting, "you obviously have no idea what i drive, do you?!?!?" What a jerk.

you must work for a politician b/c you love to take a statement, twist it completely out of context and then repeat it over and over.

Do you have a wideband? Ever seen one? At idle? It SHOULD dance around 14.7...maybe down to 14.2 or so...maybe up to 15... NOT "all over the place"

do i have a wideband?? you obviously have no idea what i drive, do you?!?!? i just checked the readings on my car at idle and they were anywhere between 12.2 and 17.7

would you not call that all over?? i guess when your making less than 300 with no cams or any type of FI it is easy to peg your AFR at one number

did you honestly think i would be driving around making over 22psi on the 93 tune and have no way to monitor the AFR?? if you didnt make a smart ass comment toward me i would have let you be. i will not let you make me look like i have no clue what i am talking about.

:stirpot: I've got the DIY wideband with the honda sensor. I don't have a gauge, so when I need to check the AFR, I use my DIGITAL volt meter and reference a table. On my 97 GT, the AFR holds steady at idle, right around 14.7:1 (2.50v). This is normal and should be expected with a stock cam and a good running engine. The AFR on the 88 varies, but this is because the tune and VAM door style air meter is crap.

However, it is also very reasonable for the AFR to vary at idle. Wilder cam grinds do not run steadily at idle. There is a certain amount of reversion and they tend to chug and cough, as they draw a poor vacuum. The engine will also occasionally miss. The AFR can also vary significantly if there is a miss. All of these cause the AFR to vary. When a cylinder misses, it will immidiately show rich on your wideband beacuse there is significant amount of extra oxygen.

I'm not talking :bs:, and there's no need to PM you to get into a pissing match in private. It's much more productive to do it out here in the open so everyone can see you for who you are.
i'm glad i bother you so much you have taken a whole week to respond to my last comments with your lame ass comebacks.
I'm not sure how to take this comment...? You bothered me SO much that it took me a week to respond? If you bothered me at all, common sense would dictate that I would have responded quickly. Talk about lame ass comebacks.

Yeah, we wouldn't want your narrow minded tech support to go completely to crap. :rlaugh: So glad you are in a good mood - Now go with that thought and try to broaden your scope a bit before you pipe in on subjects in which you end up steering the thread starter in the wrong direction. Which is exactly what you did and which is exactly what I take issue with. Should someone look at your sig and say, "OMG - look what he drives - he must know what he's talking about." No, they probably shouldn't but they probably do. So, then when you jump up on your milkcrate and state, "you obviously have no idea what i drive, do you?!?!?" - then, yeah, I take issue with that. It's as if you are saying, "Look at what I drive - I know it all." Fact is, it's quite obvious that you don't. You still haven't provided any input on a NA car with regard to AFR at idle. You're still jumping up and down, beating on your chest singing, "you obviously have no idea what i drive, do you?!?!?" Taking down punks like you is like shooting fish in a barrel.

Twist it completely out of context? How so? Repeat it over and over? Well hell yeah, because it was one of the dumbest things I'd heard in a long time.

I have no idea what you might do. Remember, I'm the one who obviously has no idea what you drive, right?!?!?"

You don't need my help in looking like you have no clue...
