I just installed a new camshaft in my 289
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SUM-K3602&autoview=sku

It idles fine and the timing is set at about 10*

Whenever I am stopped at a light and I have my car in drive with my foot on the break it dies, I have to put it in neutral and coast to a stop, and then put it into drive and give it some gas.

I have a holley 1850-2 vacuum assist carburetor on the car, could it be some sort of issue with it not getting enough fuel? The float bowls are properly set, and the idle is good.

Edit: I pulled the Carburetor of my Grandpas old Bronco, and rebuilt it using a kit from holley, Its similar to the 4150 and 4160 models.

that cam sounds too big for a stock stall torque converter IMO.You gonna have to raise the idle to about 900-1000 probably and foot brake at at stops.

If you have a Pertronix ignition and it is hooked to the + side of the coil for power, the unit will not receive enough voltage at idle to keep the engine running.

It idles well at a pretty low RPM, I have a blaster 2 coil and the rest is stock from factory. Could it still be my ignition? I was thinking its a shortage of fuel going from idle to having a load in the carb, because it runs great with the smallest bit of gas while in drive.

I was thinking of getting an MSD setup soon, would this make a difference?

Is there a cheaper alternative than to change the converter? I didnt wanna spend that much money.

you shoulda asked summit what that cam needs because im guessing it needs gears too to work best.

Only option is to drive with 2 feet at stop.

Im sorry guys, I accedently posted up the wrong Cam I purchased. I got this one http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SUM-K3601, theres 3 kits there and they all look alike, I clicked on the wrong one and posted it as a link.

Anyways, I installed that cam with a double roller and a blaster 2, is a 0.471 int./0.471 exh. cam still a bit to radical for my car? Could it now be another problem or is it still probably the converter?

that cam is borderline.I was told anything over 270* duration is gonna make the car lurch in gear.I would raise the idle a little and see what happens
