car temp(not what you think)

i know probably the most common issue with our cars is cooling issues...now is our temp gauge a dummy gauge like our oil pressure gauge??....because my temp gauge never reads above like the O in NORMAL.....

I dont think its the same type of dummy gauge like the oil gauge. It just isnt very accurate like an aftermarket one. Mine has gone as high as the L in NORMAL, at that point I just cruised down hill in the slow lane and it dropped back down slowly. It is usually around the O/R on the gauge though.

I have an autometer temp gauge and still have my factory one operational as well. Today my car read on the A & L and my autometer read 220 degrees. I have a new Fluidyne, new ECT, water 70% / 30% anti mix and a new factory pump. I just don't get it so I live with it, sux though.

Ant - It's not a big deal. Mine does the same thing and if/when I get on it hard through 3 or 4 gears, it will creep up to R and sometimes M. If I am just cruising along at 70 and have been for 30 minutes or so, it sticks to O. I think you're all right.

I use a 60/40 mix though...

mine usually was at the N or the O when my stock one was hooked up. My autometer sensor now takes the place of where the stock sensor was and I run between 180-205 depending on outside temp and the amount of traffic.

I got stock radiator, 180*thermostat, 50% coolant/distilled water and a few changes in my EEC tuner and temperature is pretty much a steady 190*.

So what should I do to get my temps from 220 down to 190 ish? Have any ideas or what do you guys do?

Yeah I usually run just on the N, sometimes into the O and the tweecer will read about 180-190 there. If I use the stock fan settings it will run about 205-210. The fan switching temps make a world of a difference.

My factory temp gauge seems fairly accurate, surprisingly. When I do a DCL data scan with my code scanner, the temp often correlates to the little scales I've seen on here. N= about 190*, O= about 200*, and so on.

Mine reached 210* the other day with a Summit radiator, Stewart water pump, and stock temp t-stat. I long for the day that I can get a Tweecer.

yeah i didnt think it was a problem, i was just curious because everyone is always complaining about our cars running hot, and mine stays cool lol....

So what is actually normal op temps for our cars cuz my gauge goes to 250 and it feels weird see it almost maxed out? My fan turns on @ 215-220 and turns off at 210 according to my autometer. What is "A & L" for a temp in our cars? 240?

i think you are pretty close with that idea about what each letter means. my car runs at a pretty steady 190* with a few mods of the tweecer during 90* weather about a week ago. well i decided to beat the piss outta her that day too and she never got above 205 and she was only a lil past the O. i heard our cars run best from 190-210......i think
