Car weight with aluminum block.

Weighed my car today to see how close I came to my goals of 2800lbs and 50/50 weight distribution. I'm actually a little disapointed.
The results:
2912lbs with 53/47 front/rear distribution. The weight is with about 6gal gas and no driver. We me in the car (210lbs)the front/rear distribution shifts about .2% to the rear. Oddly, with me in the car the side to side distribution is 49/51 with the driver's side being lighter. I know I shifted the engine sightly to the passenger side to clear the MII steering shaft but I suspect there may be some weight jacking with the front sway bar.

The mods: All aluminum engine, fiberglass hood, fenders and front valance, aluminum radiator, battery in trunk, removed rear fold down seat, Heidt's IRS and TCP subframe connectors with cross brace. The wheel tire combo includes 245/45/17 on 17x8 and 275/40/17 on 17x9.5. The seats are Flo-fits which probably weigh a little more than stock.

The car feels so light and easy to push I was expecting more like 2700lbs.

I remember you showing me the IRS when I picked up the rotisserie--I wonder how much more the IRS weighs than the standard suspension? Is there a much heftier crossmember with the MII front suspension as well? I installed the TCP setup with the crossbrace and that stuff is probably a trade out for the fold down.

The IRS weighs about 220lbs. Thats really close to the 8" assy with leaf springs. The MII crossmember is much heavier than stock. The Webers weigh more than 1 four barrel. Dual 2.5" exhaust with crossover is a little heavier than stock. Power windows probably add a little as do the 4 speakers. I agree with the TCP sfc weighing about the same as the rear seat (75lbs). I know! It's the 7qt oil pan.

Do you have the 69 on the rotisserie yet? We need some updates on the long running restoration.

Thanks for asking--I don't mean to take us off topic. I am close--had to finish the 73 and then decided to sell it, finishing the 73 took longer than planned to get it "done", selling was painless though, just took it to Pomona twice! With the 69, I wanted the TCP's on before going on the rotisserie, then decided, well, better finish all the welds on the quarters and trunk floor, then... You get the picture. Should be airborne in 2 weeks or less--

Yes, the 2 extra quarts of oil! Bingo! Would have been interesting (but not practical) to weigh everything you took off, then weigh everything you put back on. Still, under 3,000 lbs isn't bad. Some of these cars are well over 3,500 with the options and accessories and you still have many of the conveniences. 500+ pounds is pretty significant.

My stock '66 FB with spare tire weighed right at 3000lbs. I have yet to weigh the car since mod'ing it, but will one of these days. Likewise, I am hoping for 2800lbs, or a bit less.

torque boxes

I also added front torque boxes which weigh a few pounds. I was inconsistent with weighing parts. I weighed the new engine will all accessories (365lbs) and the old engine (485lbs). I weighed the fold down seat but not the sfc. I weighed the IRS but not the old rear suspension. I also weighed the stock vs. fiberglass hood (48vs28) fenders (24vs15). I know the new wheels and tires are about 52llbs each and the stock are about 37lbs. I weighed the stock seat (50lbs) but not the Flofits.

However, I just noticed something funny about yesterday's data. With me in the car the weight is 3040 which is only 128lbs more than the empty weight. Since I'm 214lbs on the same scale there's a 86lb mystery. I guess I need to find another scale and try again.

69rustang, I definitey agree you should put the subframe connectors on before rotisserizing the car (new word).
