I have a 95 gt sometimes it wont start, I checked fuel pressure and it was low ,so cycling key did pull up the fuel pressure to 38, on my gauge, so is my fuel pump bad?

thanks

Does it crank when it won't start?

When you don't cycle the key and it won't start,
if you cycle the key, does it start immediately?

yes, it cranks, I put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail and when I first hit the key I get 20 pounds of fuel press, after I cycle the key it will go up to 38 pounds, yes cycle the key fires it up

thank you soooo much!

If you have fuel line crimping pliers, you can try to ascertain where the issue is. The most likely sources are a weak check valve or the FPR.

Otherwise, you could prime it a couple of times before trying to start it or let it crank for a couple of extra seconds while it builds pressure.

But also could be a bad fuel filter maybe. Does your fuel pump whine real bad?

Odds are it's the pump...super common on these cars. A new pump will cure it for awhile, then it starts all over again...been there. Everytime it builds 38 psi or so it'll lite right off, anything less it cranks...I use my fuel pressure gage on the cowl and can see it.

Its a pain to change and letting it crank is a drag to boot....use the 3 time key on trick til you feel like getting at it. Mine did it for years...it's more aggravating than anything else....specially if your in front of a bunch of Chevy guys and it just cranks.....

Sometimes my 94 fires right up, and others i have to crank it a little bit, or even a few times. I can definitely hear my fuel pump whine pretty good while driving. I also feel that it lags sometimes. Also, do not have a pressure regulator. Could that be a pump issue?

How much gas do you have in your tank. Fuel pumps only fail when the tank is slap ass full.

Be assured you have a FPR if not aftermarket then the OEM unit.

Murphy's law. It only fails when it's full, so that you have to drop a full fuel tank to change it out.
