car won't start!!

I have a 1991 LX 5.0 convertible. I turned down my street and the car died. It cranks fine but won't start. The gas guage showed a quarter of a tank but just in case the guage was wrong, I put in additional 3 gallons of gas. Still nothing.

I found the fuel pump relay under the drivers seat and replaced it. I also smell gas while cranking the car.

I don't have any type of volt meters and just basic tools.

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Thanks

Larry

If you smell gas you likely aren't getting any spark. Take the spark plugs out and if you smell a whole lotta gas keep them out for a few hours and let it dry out. Then take the coil wire off of the distributor. Set it up against the firewall (don't hold it) say by the radiator or somewhere grounded and have someone crank the ignition.

You should see an ark. If not, try a different (or new) coil. If you have a spark then you need to start checking your distributor, rotor, etc... See the link above

And just so you know I did everything and it turned out to be the ignition module under the steering wheel.
