96 Gt 5 speed BONE stock. When turned on car idles to 1000 rpm and shuts down immediatelly. If gas is slightly pressed car will continue to idle....Battery is fully charged and car has gas! Any ideas??????

check the IAC valve (idle air control) if it is damaged then the car will starve at idle and shut down. check all the vacuum lines around the intake as well.

Does sound like an IAC....just don't buy the replacement from Autozone....theirs don't last long...thats why their so cheap in price.

I know all about the 96/97 problems. If its the IAC, replace that and see it helps, but I know these years are bad when your reset the whole computer, when the motor is warm, it wont hold an idle what so ever. If this is the case, wait to the car is completely cold, and then immiediately drive it around for 20-30 min so it can relearn everything.

if you hold the gas down enough to keep idle, do you smell gas fumes? I just had a coil pack go bad in my '96, 2 days ago. It ran fine the night before, and next morning it would fire up, and then die. I pulled a few plug wires off, and had someone turn the car over while i looked what color spark the wires were giving off.. if you got bright cool blue spark, you can rule out the ignition problem.. but if you got orange spark, might as well get 2 new coil packs.

Its probalby your IAC. I had the same thing happen, my car would start then die unless I held the gas down. Bought a new IAC from ford and all is good.

Might be a good time to replace the fuel filter too.

The IAC is your most likely culprit. Pretty easy swap.
