I'm having some trouble with my stock carb. I'm looking to replace it with an aftermarket one and may as well change out the manifold as well. The only other future mods will be headers and duel exhaust. I want to keep the car street legal and keep within $400-$500 total for both. Does anybody have any ideas? There are so many out there and its extremely confusing especially since I don't have much experience tuning carbs. I would assume the electric choke would be best. Thanks in advance.

First, I think I might still have my stock carb off of my '85 GT. It was rebuilt with a Holley trick kit and never put back on the car because I went with a brand new Double pumper.
Second, don't make the mistake in thinking that bigger is better. With your application I would not go over a 650cfm carb. As far as intakes go, dollar for dollar the Edelbrock Performer rpm is IMO the best way to go.
Another cheap thing to think about also would be some good 1.72 roller rockers. The carbed Foxes really wake up with a set of those.

I'd go plain old performer.. if you need to keep the EGR for smog, it's the only choice you have... do a little gasket matching and it works fine..
I tried the RPM on mine and it sucked.. even with the AFR's, I lost .2 and 2mph in the 1/4 ..

600 vac. holley with either the tall yellow or white secondary spring would work too..

Thanks guys. How about Weiand? Its seems to be a little cheaper than the edlebrock performer. If not a 600 - 650 cfm performer carb and intake should be perfect. I would go with electric choke because I'm not really up on all the tuning.

depends on if you need the EGR to pass smog.. if you dont, the wiend stealth is fine.. if you do, the perfomer is the only intake with it..

you might just look at either rebuilding the stock carb, or having someone do it.. if you want to keep it all original. There are a few places that can tweak the stocker and have it run really good..
