Carb. / Dist. vaccuum line question. 69, 302

I just bought a new edelbrock 600cfm electric choke carb. My 69 has the stock 302, which used to be a 2v. i changed the manifold over to a 4v. the vaccuum line from the distributor was never hooked up.

Looking through the instructions to the carb it says i need to know wether my dist vaccuum is a "timed" or "full" vaccuum so that i can hook it up to the appropriate line on the carb.

Anyone know which type my dist is?

I don't know the answer, but I love your car. :hail2: I hope mine looks that good when I am through. I am getting the complete shop manuals in the mail this week. If I find an answer I'll let you know, especially since I plan on going Edelbrock myself. :cheers:

Hey thanks a lot for the compliment! :nice:

I guess i will play around with which vaccuum port to use. the car runs very nicely, good throttle response and power.

it just has a high idle that i attribute to a vaccuum problem. and since all the gaskets are new, and i dont have any vaccuum lines running to the carb other than the PCV it must be the line that goes from the distibutor to the carb, or lack of.

The edelbrock manual says to use the full port on the driver's side for cars without emission control. I'm using the exact set-up as yourself and run it this way, although I have seen others on the site here reccomend the timed port without any reason as to why.

The manual is your friend, as is the edelbrock website.
 
There is a good reason why to run ported. If you run straight manifold vacuum to the vacuum advance, it is really not much different than advance the base timing manually when you set it. It will be at full vacuum advance, even at idle.

Ported vacuum is used because it adjusts timing based on throttle position, load and rpm. That's why the factory uses ported in about 99% of all cases for Fords.

Also, if you use manifold vacuum to the vacuum advance, you decrease the range of advance in your dizzy, since the mechanical advance in stock Ford dizzys is meant to run in conjunction with ported vacuum advance.
