Carb Problems

My car is starting very harshly. I can smell gas when I start up so I am thinking that my carb is messed. I redid my carb with a carb kit and low and behold, half the darn parts didn't even fit properly, or look remotely like the originals I pulled out, even though it was "the proper kit for my car" (or so the guy at Part Source says). I am for sure burning rich, very rich, and my mileage is not doing well at all. Does anyone know where I should go from here? Carbs are getting really expensive due to lack of consumer demand. Anyone know a good place to buy a carb at(used if necessary)?

float level may be set too high causing it to flood.

i would say get a new carb, used or rebuilts usually are trash from my experience, its probaly flooded

nothing wrong with a used or or good rebuilt carb. If you want quality go with someone likes BIGS they will take your carb and turn it into a work of art. But for all your answer I would for sure stroll on over to carbdford.com and check out there boards. They have a ton of knowledge and speialize in problems like yours.
