Carbon Fiber PST driveshaft Install ?

I am getting a new carbon fiber driveshaft from PST for x-mas, with aluminum yokes... my question is should I get new bolts for the rear or just reuse the old ones? Does ARP make these bolts? Also does the tranny fluid need to be emptied to do the swap? If you have any other tips before I do this I would appreciate it.

I reused my bolts when I switched to an aluminum DS on my 03 GT Auto. You won't have to change your tranny oil. I few table spoons of tranny oil came out when I removed the DS yoke from the tranny.

Just out of curiosity, how long does the install take on jack stands but with air tools.

Also was it worth the cost?

If money were no object would you...

A. Get a carbon fiber driveshaft

B. Stay with aluminum driveshaft


I have heard some people say that if you hit or scratch the carbon fiber drive shaft.. you can damage the integrity of the carbon fiber? I am curious if this is true? Especially from road debris.

If you dint it it can shatter, but it has to be pretty substantial to hit it that hard. As long as you don't ram the driveshaft onto speed bumps I don't see how it can get stuffed, unless you run over something, like a brick.

anything that would destroy a carbon fiber ds would do the same to an aluminum one, cf is stronger than steel and lighter than aluminum, the only drawback is the cost

Yes and no. While it may have more tensile strength, it is only in the direction of the cloth - the fibres. If you hit it from the side it will crack and it goes downhill from there. The driveshafts are fairly thick though from what I've seen, and it would take a pretty big hit to do it, but steel would still be tougher, just not as strong in its intended use, and definitely not as light.

The driveshaft works like a chinese finger trap, when torque is applied the fibres tighten up, like a million tiny ropes being pulled on. This gives it the shock absorbing nature.
