Anyone heard of carrier shims shifting out of place?
My FRPP 3.73-equipped (installed spring 2005, maybe 3700 miles on them) GT was beginning to make a light humming noise at highway speeds so I took it to the installer and they had a look. The current message is that the carrier shims (one side or both, I don't know) seem to have shifted out of position, I guess backwards toward the cover. They tell me the backlash is still 0.010" and the pattern still looks good but...
The only thing I can immediately think of that might allow this to happen is that the carrier preload was not set tight enough. Any other ideas?
