The combo im putting together should make near 500hp flywheel hp..naturally aspirated 347. Engine shouldnt be spinning over 6500rpms. I was looking at two different crankshafts...hawks racing cast crank or a hawks racing 5140 crank. You think the cast crank would hold up on my non-daily driver?

Are you running the stock 302 block? If so cast will hold up fine, because the block will break first. If you had a sportsman, A4, Dart, R block I would invest in the forged.

I am saying this not from experience but researching sites like www.turbomustangs.com shows the block as being weaker than the internals.

Yup, the block will give way before the crank. One other piece of advice, go with something better than a hawks crank. They arent exactly of the greatest quality and not very much good feedback....

Cast will hold up fine but it's a good feeling knowing you have a steel crank backing you up. All though the guy's above me are right, the block probably will go before the crank ever does.
I also agree with Timmy. Go with Scat instead, there crank's are great. I'd go with there 9000 Series Cast Crank which is rated for 700HP and are actually really reasonable priced. I've been using Scat Crank's & Rods for year now and am currently using one in my 408. Never had a problem with any of them. Infact the 9000 Cast Crank is probably one of the most widely used crank's on the market.

Scat; $50 more expensive, about half the headache.

If you're using a stock block a cast crankshaft is fine.

I agree with Brian, the cast crank will be fine for what you need, and I have not seen anything good about HAWK. I have used many of Scat 9000 series cast cranks with no issues...

I just built a blown 331 for a guy and it has a Scat 9000 series crank, Scat I beams and Probe pistons, it will out live the block for sure and will make over 500FWHP.

Brian has good prices, check him out scatstroker@hotmail.com
