first off, i am not quite sure its my cat, but about 3 weeks ago i whent over a tall speed hump too fast and it dented my left cat. aprox 2 days later, all of a sudden when i started the car, it sounded kinda like rocks bouncing around in the cat. (i am 95 percent sure its coming from the cat..) that day however it stopped and the cat made no noise. today, however it started again. when the car is idling u cant hear anything, but if u rev it, u can hear it louder and louder. u can hear it while driving as well... anyway, does this usually happen when a cat goes bad? i am also assuming its not fixable and i need a new cat...
this leads to my next question i live in cali and smog restrictions here are tight... i want to be able to pass smog and i am going to be getting a supercharger soonish... should i replace my cats with high flow ones? get stock ones etc? any ideas and comments will be appreciated. i basically wanna be able to pass the sniffer, gain any possible hp their is to gain, yet not spend an arm and a leg. thanks alot.

Sounds just like the noises mine made, parked and rev'in or driving and rev'in, it made that rattle sound. Not always, but most of the time, especially around mid-rpm's. Ford told me cat was busted....but Its been 3 DAMN MONTHS, and the part is still on back-order! ARRRGHH!

But what confuses me about your situation, your sig says Bassani offroad X. What's the deal? Get a modular catted X...that way if you go SC'd...and decide to get LT's...you can adapt it to your needs. Plus sounds like you'll need the cats to pass emissions. The modular ones are bit more expensive, but should suit your needs down the road.

If that's true, then when you crawl underneath and check em...there should be some play on the shield or you should be able to see the busted weld if you look closely enough.

On mine, nothing was loose, nothing moved. Damn 3 month backorder on cats! ARRRGHGH!

ok, whent to apex motorsport today and i think i have a solution but let me first say, that i have recently been wanting to get a full bassani exhaust since i already have the bassani x.

the guy at apex basically told me to replace my broken cat i would have to have it cut out, new one put in, in its place. he said it would be just as much $ to just get a new bassani x wich would come with two new cats.

i however want to get a full bassani exhaust and get rid of my current mufflers so i am just going to go with a full bassani cat back. apex motorsport is going to sell it for me for 500$. is this a decent price?
he also said it would be very expensive to get bassani mufflers put in bythemselves because the in and outlets are really short so it takes alot of labor $ to get them to stay right.

recap: busted cat, new x pipe (350$) is cheaper than replacing cats, will go with cat back since its only 150 more because i want full bassani exhaust.
thanks for all the help guys.

Same thing happened to me in my 93, but I had aftermarket cats, and 3" pipe. The cats rattled like crazy, and after chopping them out, I still had rattles from the mufflers, which had chunks of catalyst floating around in them. If you're getting the cats done first, and the catback at a later time, I suggest trying your best to shake out the catback the best you can.

Oh, and bump for a few sound clips and pics of the full Bassani system when you get it together! I've never heard a full catted Bassani system before.

$500 total isn't bad, I'd do it. Considering when I got my car it had a o/r x-pipe on it and I paid $400 something to just have cats put in it. Go for it.

I'm still so confused, so you don't currently have a O/R X like your sig says. So Apex is gonna sell you a new catted x-pipe and a catback exhaust for 500 bucks? If that's the case, jump all over it, that's like 1000 bucks of stuff.

I'm also stumped at Serper3's sig. It clearly states he has an OFF-ROAD X pipe.

Serper3, do you know what "OFF-ROAD" means? It means the pipe has NO cats.

Update your sig. You either do or do not have cats on your current x pipe.
