Causes of backfireing??

i just replaced my water pump and started my car and it idled normal but every few seconds has a slight back fire..its not real loud like a gun or anything....it didnt do this when i pulled it into the garage?

odd thing is about two weeks ago it did the same thing..i started it and it did the slight poping/backfireing, then it sat for a few days and i completely forgot about it and when i started it up the next time it didnt do it at all...now i parked it and replace the WP and now its doing it again?

backfiring out the exhaust is to much fuel or its real rich right??

it could really be a number of things. Plugs, wires, TPS is bad or needs cleaning, timing, etc...

when it was happening to me, it was my plug wires.

My car pops when it's cold... I just let it warm up and then it's fine...

You can pull your codes and do a cylinder balance test to see if everything checks out OK. If you pass that, then take the noises as a sign that the car just wants you do drive it..

If it has sat a lot lately, driving it some is not a bad idea. the fuel will help clean varnish out of injectors (if not bad) simply from the flow and actuation, etc.

it sounds like firecrackers in the mufflers...plug wires are brand new...every thing else is just about new...dont have meny miles on anything as the car wont stop having problums
