CD player help?

The factory cd player that came in my cobra does not seem to work, when i put a cd in it makes a loud ticking sound then spits the cd out. Has anyone had a similar problem? Can it be fixed?

It can be fixed @ abround $300+ dollars. There are many better solutions out there for around that same price, for instance - a new deck with at least 2 pre-outs so you can run some RCAs and splice them into the low-level inputs on yr factory amp. Personally, I'd gut all the OE Ford audio equipment - the radios are dismal and factory paper 5x7's are just gross...ditch the MACH amps too! Get a nice deck (Alpine, Eclipse, Clarion) and some nice speakers you can beat the heck out of (Boston Acoustics, JL Audio, MB Quart) and you'll have a system that costs less than the MACH system and sounds alot better. Just remember to use quality speaker wire and get it installed right.

Even getting the CD player fixed only buys time. They are notorious for the problem you just mentioned. After a while it will do like mine and not eject.... then it's a REAL pain as you can only listen the radio for 60 seconds at a time as the CD trys to load again... and again.... and again.

I got a replacement at a salavge yard. It was better than mine, but did what you say yours is doing. Just clicks, but at least it ejected my cd without me having to take the damn player apart.

I took it back and plan to ditch the stock setup as suggested.

my cd player started doing the same thing recently in my 94 GT, only it starts clicking when i put a cd in and won't stop or eject it sometimes. can't use it anymore. i've always thought the mach system was incredibly weak, considering the number of speakers in the car.

The weak point of the mach system is the radio/cd player head unit. I wired in a pioneer cd player to my mach system and after that it rocked. You can get the harnes and line input adapter from best buy for about $50. I got a wiring diagram off line. It's pretty easy to do.

that's good to know....i'd rather just replace the head unit. as long as it ends up sounding a lot better than the factory setup.

mine did that too but i pulled one out of a 94 gt and it did the same thing so i dont know if that was another bad head unit or if i have a messed up wire or soemthing
