I'm posting this message here because the sound and shine room has been pretty quiet.

I have a 1990 lx 5.0 notch with the stock deck (yes, that piece of crap) and would like to get an CD player to replace it. The question I have is, what other type of connector will I need if I just want to get a stock factory CD player. If getting an aftermarket deck is better and won't cost much more please let me know. I intend on getting a used factory player from Ebay or something like that but if aftermarket is better I'll go that route. I just want to save some cash!!

thanks

I just put one in my 90LX Hatch. I went the Crutchfield route with an aftermarket deck. You can probably find a new CD player and all new speakers for what you will pay for a reconditioned factory deck on ebay. They send you all the connectors and the face adapter for free. For all 6 speakers and a CD player it was $300 for me.

On a side note my factory amp was what was shot. It would fade in and out. They send you a jumper to bypass the speaker wires around it. The adapters also include speaker adapters that let you use the stock wires and connectors.

you can always check your local pawn shops. You could get a used aftermarket cd player from ebay from 25-100 bucks.

Looks like I'm going for the aftermarket route.

What are your brand preferences(deck/speakers)? Clarion, Kenwood, Alpine etc....

i agree with the aftermarket route.
brand: it really depends upon what you like. i might go to a stereo shop and check some out. see what you like and then get it there, hit online auctions, e-stores, etc.

one can get the wiring connectors at parts stores, wally mart, etc for 5-8 bucks.

Do you have Mach 460? if so, you need a special adapter to play through the amps. I just bought a new MP3/CD player on Ebay for under $200 and the adaptor unfortunatly cost $50.

But, If you don't have Mach 460, just get the wire set from circuit city for about $12 and wire it in to the stock speakers.

Any more Q?
