Cervini Hoods and How They Fit/Paint

So far I have read that their hoods are the best which is a good thing because I am expecting my Cobra R hood tomorrow. Can I expect the hood to just bolt on without much in the way of problems? I have a friend coming over tomorrow to help out and I hope it just fits right from the start.

I called a shop today and I was told that I should have the hood paint blend into the fenders. I told them that I don't want my fenders touched. Is this necessary? I was quoted $500.00.

By the way, I did a search on this and really did not find an answer plus I'm pretty excited.

Iwould say have them blended in i had my hood and fender done on my truck and they did not blend it in and it looked awfull

I have the stalker hood and the quality was excellent. No problems at all with the fit. They do require alot of prep work though (as my body shop put it). My car was brand new when i had my hood put on so i dident have it blended. However, with your car being a little older i would recoment having it blended. I'v seen other cars that havent had theirs blended in and in certain lights you can tell the diffenece. Anyways, good luck!

I have a 2000 gt with the cobra R hood that you are getting.
I had a body shop paint, blend, and install it for $500 and change.
The hood looks killer and the screened vents help dissipate some
of the hot engine air under the hood, so it's kind of functional.
Great look, great fit, nice piece all around !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the hood that should be delivered today. I guess having the top of the fenders blended is not so bad since I have a scratch on one of them.

So it just bolted up? I keep asking because my luck is that something stupid is going to happen and it won't fit.

Well I got the hood today and I had to run home to see it. I opened the box to take a look and you guys are right, the finish looks excellent. I can't wait to throw it on this afternoon. I'll take some pics and post'em.

I don't know how hard or involved the install is, since I had the body shop
do it. If you have someone help you, I don't think it will be much of a problem.
Lot's of people fit it first, to make sure the fit is ok, but I had the body shop
fit it and told them to call me if there was a problem. I'm not sure how you
want to do it. Let me know how you make out !!!! A word of warning,
when you lift the new hood now, make sure you only lift it high enough to
get the prop rod under it. If you lift it any higher, you will hit the windshield
wipers. I had to learn the hard way. Got a little nick in it, but touched it up
with some touch-up paint. Be careful though.

Hey guys, well I put it on and it fits great. I am really impressed with the quality of the hood and I think it's going to look great when it's painted.

The only issue is that the hood does not latch down. I guess I need to adjust the latch mechanism by lowering it, is this correct? Should I use Locktite on the bolts of the hood that go into the hood inserts?

I will post some pics when I get home.

Nice nice...now its time to get that puppy painted...Dealership wanted 350 to repaint my entire stock hood (that was before getting it covered under warranty from some unusual chipping...). If a dealership wants 350 im sure a good quality shop can do a full hood paint job to match your silver paint for $250 ish. Shop around but also check the BBB to see if the companies have any complaints.

Two quotes so far for the hood is in the $500.00 range. I don't mind as long as I get a really good paint job.

Another question, when I have the shop paint the hood I want the underside painted as well. Do I have to have them use a high heat paint for under the hood? What paint should they use? I don't trust body shops so this is why I have to ask all these questions.

No, they use the same paint as on the outside. I have the same hood. It's in the paint shop getting done now. The fitting is a bit of a pain to get it just right. I had to move my hinges, latch, and quarter panels to get it perfect. At first the latch was too far to the right causing the hood to twist and lift up on the front right.

Yeah $500 is insane I would never pay that to have a hood painted. I got my hood painted for $225 and I definetly didnt have my fenders touched. My car was a 96 and I took good care of it and the paint matched fine. The guy did a good job on it. Oh and thats $225 prepped, painted and installed. I had it on the car and he took it off to paint it and put it back on and fixed it so it would shut all the way. I had the same problem w/ it not latching down all the way. So I would definetly not pay $500 and probably would say $300 is the max I would pay.

Here's a pic for the heck of it.

Zinc, glad you responded. I am having a problem with the latch. I can't get it lock down and the the passenger side corner near the light is up a bit. Not sure if it's because of it not latching down. What's the secret to the latch?

I popped the pins so it would have more play and I could lower it but it's still not holding the hood tight.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You need to remove the plastic cover over the latch and rad area to get to the bolt that will loosen the latch so you can move it side to side. Also the four bolts that attach the hinges to the car(not the four that go into the hood) are the ones that you loosen to move the hood around. If you have any problems take it to a body shop as they are used to it.

Thanks! I am going to fiddle with it tomorrow. I am going to try and get it right before I send it to the shop. I figure if I leave to them to figure out they'll screw up something else.

Just throwing in my $.02. If you have a prof. bodyshop do the work, they are going to blend the fenders in to warranty the paint match. However if you can get someone to do it on the side, I can vouch for saying that this color is pretty easy to match and that no blending is needed. I did a 2000 Cobra R hood from Cervini's (which is top notch I might add) this color on an 01 Cobra and it matched perfectly. You couldn't tell that it had ever been changed, I just wish I had a picture of it on the car. The only one I have is of the hood by itself.
