Cervinis Cobra R hood will not shut.

Just finished the fox throttle body swap, also swapped out the cobra intake for a trickflow R, and swapped the 98 style Cobra hood for the cervinis R hood. The problem I am having is the rear of the R intake is hitting the rear of the hood. Has any one ran into this problem before? My engine is a 351w, and i am using a 3/8 inch spacer between the upper and lower. I am using the spacer because the fox throttle linkage looks like it would hit the valve cover without it. 3 questions.
1. Has anyone else ran into this problem?
2. Can anyone suggest a fix?
3. Any guess if the hofibertrends hood has more clearance?


Please help out, im stuck. Also if you have a hofibertrends hood, please share pics of the underside. Thanks.

damn man that 351 plus the spacer puts you pretty high up. a bigger cowl from h.o. should do the trick. i would guess the 2 1/2 would give you the clearance you need but don't know for sure http://hofibertrends.com/9498 parts page.htm

I have the exact same setup as you do, 408, R series intake, and 3/8" spacer. My hood doesn't clear either, but I just force it. It does rub the underside of the hood, but for now I'm not worrying too much about it. I was hoping to do the fox throttle body setup and I could ditch the spacer...but if you say it won't clear......then I don't kno what to do.....??

Hey parchisi, I am surprised your hood shut. I tried to put a little weight on mine and i heard some cracking. I think I will try some drop motor mounts.

I'd just cut the hood where its hitting and fiberglass a "notch" in it and repaint it, this is assuming its hitting on the double walled area at the very back of the hood. Yeahloh95's friend did this on his fox and unless he told you he had done it you would never know.

I am modifying my throttle linkage to clear the vc 9I am running a fox tb conversion). You might want to try that then you maybe able to ditch the spacer.

i would take out the spacer to make for damn sure that you can't fit the fox setup in there. then if that doesn't work, notch the hood like Paul said.

Wait a minute guys.. Am I missing something here or can he just change out to shorter motor mounts?

Well I think I figured out my problem. I am also using the qa1 k member, and it has two positions for the motor to sit at. I used the farthest one towards the back, I think thats why it hits only the rear of the hood. I am going to try out a set of drop mounts, I really do not want to slide the engine and tranny forward because that will open up a new can of worms ie, driveshaft spacer, rework tranny crossmember, and recut tunnel where shifter is(I added metal to the area to close the hole up a bit) and then having to borrow a cherry picker. Thanks for any feedback and I probably wont be cutting into hood anytime soon, I am not sure if the hood will be permanent to this car, and I would hate to sell it modified if it came to getting rid of it. By the way, the fox set up really does clean up the engine area, I like to thank all the pioneers of the fox swap. Thanks again for the feedback.

Thanks for mentioning this Grady. But if I may add, I was thinking of the "in between" motors mounts - not the solid ones. Do you think the shorter ones that are not solid still transfer NVH?

UPDATE. Just installed a set of solid drop motor mounts as well as moving the engine forward and problem solved. Thanks for the responces, I hope that is the last problem I have with the car, I am getting to old to crawl under it.
