change rear end fluid

anyone have any close ups of where the plugg is to change your rear end fluid? i think i need to change it ti squeels whenever i hit like 5800rpms and it shifts into gear i have an auto btw. if any one has any thoughts if you think the squeeling is something else or any pictures and how to do it it would help thank guys

To properly change the fluid, you should remove the cover and clean everything out. The fill plug is located if the front of the housing, on the drivers side about half way up. You'll need a 3/8 drive rachet and a 6" extension to remove it. However, I don't think your squealing problem is from the rearend fluid. Sounds to me like it's something in the trans. Or it's possibly a bad pinion or carrier bearing to me.

ya maybe....... its a very high pitched squeel lasts like a second or less only when the rpms are high and shifts into gear kinda annoying...... and i think i seen the fill plug hard to get at kinda, correct me if i am wrong there no drain plug?

Only way to change your fluid with a stock diff. cover is to take the cover off. The drain plug is on the drivers side of the differential near the drive shaft. It takes a 3/8 extension "No Socket" 3-6 inches long.

You shouldn't be able to remove the fill plug with just an extension. That needs to be tightened up with a rachet. If yours is that loose Rocketman, I suggest you tighten it up!

i think he meant that there was an extensions attached to a ratchet.

My mistake. Must be the heat getting to me today. I thought he was implying that it just went in there finger tight. SORRY Rocketman.

I had a squeling noise from my rearend a couple months after I bought the car. It was under warranty, so I brought it in. My end bearing were shot, apparently on some GT's when they came from the factory the did not put enough Fluid in the rearend, hence destroying my bearings. It would only do it when I would come off the highway from long trips and take corners, it would chatter and squeal, hope this helps Cost around $500 to replace bearing, fluid and labor.

well, maybe if you ate a real big box of wheatees that morning you could get it done with just an extension.

Mine does this every now and then. It sounds like it is coming from the drivers side of the engine bay. I have a couple friends who got new gt's and theirs do it too, from the same spot. No idea what it is, but it happens like once in a blue moon.

might be a good time to invest in a Ford Racing Differential girdle that has a fill and drain plug so you don't have to keep sealing that crappy cover on every 2 years.
