I've had one of those Crane 3000 electronic points replacement modules on my car for 12 years using it without any issues, or so I thought.

I recently replaced my old unit with a new one and discovered that I had to advance my timing so much I'd need to move my distributor. I used a timing light to reset the initial timing. I set it to 9 degrees advanced and the engine seems to rev instantly from 600 rpm to 4000 now.

I'm wondering now when exactly the spark was going off in the engine cycle with that old module installed. I'm hoping I wasn't doing damage to the drivetrain, but that might explain the vibration I was feeling at certain RPMs.

I know the new ignition module is putting out more spark energy because my car is zapping me through the spark plug wires again. It hasn't done that it years and years.
