Changing an oil pump sucks

I pray that I never have an oil pump go out on my 88. I just finished helping my neighbor swap out an oil pump in his F-150 with a 351W. What a pain in the ass. We had the engine jacked up as far as it would go. The distributor didn't want to come out. Finally got it out after about an hour of working it back and forth. Just a royal PITA.

I felt bad for him cause he has been working on it all day so I figured I would go give him a hand for a bit. Then I felt bad for myself :rlaugh: They couldn't get the dizzy out and they couldn't get the pump driveshaft to stay in the bottom of the dizzy drive gear even with a little dab of silicone. So I worked on the distributor for almost and hour and finally got it out. The o ring had hardened and about an
1/8" piece was missing and oil and dirt and gunk had run down through the missing part of the oring and had pretty much locked the dizzy into the block. After we got that out it wasn't too bad. Put a new o ring on it, cleaned everything up and put a little oil on it and the dizzy goes in like a champ.

I can imagine what a pain it would be with the double hump pan in a fox body. :bang:
