ok my friends throw out bearing went out for his 96 gt so im changing his clutch out for him............any tips about the hydrolic clutch or getting the starter off....seeing that im not used to them being that i own a 87

I believe the clutch is still cable operated on the newer GT's.

Is your friends throw out bearing squealing or did it blow up? I have the squealing bearing problem, which seems to be common on the t-45 transmissions. There is a temporary fix for that involves greasing the TOB without removing the tranny or clutch.

No need to worry, the clutch is still cable operated. The starter's a bitch. The best way I found for getting that annoying 3rd bolt off was to use a stubby box wrench. Having someone with skinny hands helps too.

You've only got 2 options bud. You can either use about 3 feet worth of extensions and go in from the front through the crossmember to get it off, or reach behind it like I said with a short wrench.

Here's a super easy way, but more work, to get the starter bolt off.

I'm pulling the motor out right now, and if you can get the motor mount out, the starter is super easy. Unbolt the motor mount from the block, then lift the engine w/ a jack or cherry picker. The jack can be used with a 2x4 sitting on the lip of the oil pan. Now remove the large nut on the bottom of the motor mount, jack the engine up as high as you can to get the motor mount slid out, and then just use a simple extension setup to get at the starter bolt, otherwise, if you're like me, it'll take ~3 hours to get it out, and 3 back in. Don't let the engine fall! It sounds like a lot of work, but your life will be much easier. Oh yeah, you'll have to take of the serpentine belt and unbolt the A/C compressor, but you'll be a much happier person when you're done. Do the A/C compressor from there, not too tough. If you need to hold the engine up without the motor mount or a jack, simply put 2 pieces of 2x4 in there to act as a temporary motor mount.

You call that "super easy"????
But hey, whatever works for you I guess...

well, for me with longtube headers, it saved me a lot of cussing and swearing. I managed to get the bolt out the first time, but as you probably know, it is a pretty tricky job. Perhaps you have more skill and luck than I, but my process (for me at least) is just as time consuming as getting a chain of extensions threaded through there and on the bolt, but without all the frustration.

Read my posts again. My "process" doesn't involve the mess of extensions either...just a stubby wrench and a little patience. :nice:

You Can Get It Off With The Exact Length Socket And Extension. The Ratchet Will End Up Right Behind The Starter And You Can Easily Swing The Ratchet To Remove Bolt. The Length Of The Socket And Extension Needs To Put The Ratchet Just Between The Back Of Starter And I Think The Crossmember Under Engine. Works Fine.
