Changing fuel filter

I've always taken it and had it done so,

How bad is it to change the fuel filter on my 04 termi? i know i have to get a special line disconnect tool and depressurize the system. I'm 2 months out from having elbow surgery so would this be alot of work?

thx in advance

If I can do it you can do it. Just be sure you do not get fuel in your eyes, might consider wearing a face shield... High quality and small spring lock disconnect tools will help also as space is tight.

Assuming is the same or similar to my 98 GT, it is not difficult at all. Go to Advance and borrow one of the fuel line disconnect tools. And yes, don't forget to relieve the fuel pressure before taking it off. I definitely didn't do that and got soaked in gas. If I were to change it again, I could probably do it in 10 minutes.

This is one of the most easy things you can do for your car. First, run the engine and while running disconnect the "fuel shut off switch" connector in your trunk (driver side behind the rear light behind the trunk interior trim.) The engine will die and pressure will be removed. There will still be some gas in the filter so when you use the disconnect tool (whole set - $8.00), put a rag over the end you are disconnecting and wear eye protection (ALWAYS wear eye protection when working under your car). Some gas will come out but not much. The rag can catch it all. Install in reverse order, hook up the "fuel shut off switch" connector. When you fire back up the car, it may take a few seconds to get the fuel back through the fuel lines to the fuel rails.

Make SURE that you put the fuel filter back in with the direction of flow the correct way (gas tank to engine). It is marked on the filter.
