Anybody out there have any tips on changing the oil pan gasket on a stock 92 5.0 LX 5 speed? I will most likely use a FelPro gasket (is there anything better?) and remove the engine mount bolts and jack up the front of the engine. Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

Robert

Just loosen the motor mounts, and trans mount.. jack the motor up till the bellhousing hits the firewall... Unbolt the oil pan.. drop it as far as possible... It won't come out, so that's the hard part... Clean the gaskets... Use a 1 piece oil pan gasket.. It makes it so much easier with the 1 piece.. and it will prevent any leaks from the cork to rubber intersections. Good luck :nice:

Definately a one piece gasket. Just put some RTV in the corners and you should be fine. The cork gaskets suck. Just try not to over tighten the bolts, though most one piece gaskets have metal collars in the bolt holes to help prevent gasket distortion..

Once again, One Piece Gaskets.
I will never again buy a cork gasket for anything. Even my 2.3L '87 LX!!!. They blow out too easy, are too easy to overtorque, and can be hard to clean up when removing. Definitely use a dab of sealant in the corners. I have tried to replace the pan gasket without pulling the motor before, and it was a major pain. If you are comfortable pulling the motor it is a one day job. Guess it depends on your time/$ budget.
