charcoal canister installation

Ive converted my injected 2.3 to a carbed 5.0 and originally removed the canister to clean the engine compartment up. Now from what I have read if I leave it off I will get gas fumes and I dont want that so I plan to relocate it into the fender.

Problem is that Im not sure how to plumb it. The original setup had some kind of little control valve in one of the lines assumably controlled by the computer. There is no computer now so do I just hook this up to a vacuum source somewhere or what?

I removed my canister when I got rid of the smog pump. Just left the line from tank to vent in the fender well by the air filter with no problems or gas smells.

What you're talking about is the purge control, the ecu will allow the trapped vapors to be burned at certain times. When the car sits the fumes from the tank are stored in the canister.

You really don't need to go through the trouble of hooking it up IMO. Carbed vehicles have them as well but I'm not sure of how they work compared to comp. controlled cars.

Without the control valve you'll pull a vacuum on the tank if you hook it up. That is if you connect the canister output to a vacuum source.
