I believe I got a 3G alternator, but it sure as hell doesnt charge like one..

at idle I'm at 8-9 but while I'm cruising I'm at 16-17...

is it possible I already have underdrive pulleys?

anyways back to the real topic.. I got March Aluminum underdrive pulleys.. say if I dont have underdrive pulleys and I'm at the current charging level would it stall?

and YET another question, My car has a CD player head unit that does not work and 3 out of 4 of my speakers work, and sound like chit....

Today I went to best buy and got carried away.. I got a new Head unit, and 6 new speakers.. nothing ricey (not even noticeable) its gonna go into factory spots without any cutting... all very good quality Alpine stuff.... total wattage on the head unit is only 220 watts I believe and when the radio turned up, A/C on, and sitting at a stop light will I have charging issues (assuming that the pulleys are in) BTW I'm in the middle of a T-5 swap, will going to a manual transmission help this any?

wow lots of questions.

I charge at 8-9 at idle and 16-17 while cruising too.... and I have underdrives with the stock alternator.

If you don't have the pulleys on there already, I would assume that you would have some charging problems. It sounds like you don't have a 3G, or maybe the batterys sucks or maybe some wires are corroded. Maybe you do have a 3G and it just isn't charging correctly.

and I think you will be fine with the stereo situation.

i would be a little disconcerted with the desparity of the idle vs speed charging levels (doubling your volts is not cool, IMHO). it can wreak havok on the electrical system.

good luck.

Snap a pic of the alternator (back side too if you can). It's easy enough to tell what alternator you have. If you have a 3g in a 2g case (PA-Performance is one source for these) then there will be 2 posts on the back of the alternator giving it away as a 3g. You can also go to www.PA-Performance.com and look at the pics there. You'll be able to make that determination yourself about which alt you have. Hope this helps.
