Hey guys, Just baught a 86 5.0 GT. when I baught it the alternator was bad so I replaced it. just after replacing the alternator the battery registerd 12.6 with the car off, and 14 volts with the engine running. after driving it around for a few weeks, the battery went dead. the engine wouldn't even stay running after I jumped started it when I removed the jumper cables. as soon a I would remove the cables, maybe 3 or 4 seconds after the engine would die. I charged the battery it's holding a charge. so now the car starts on its own and stays running but I am reading 11.67 volts with the engine running, if I disconnect the top wire connector of the Alternator the voltage doesn't change. I can't get to the bottum wire connector without taking the alternator out. but it is connected firmly to the alternator. My question is, Is it the altinator. if how do I trace what caused it to go bad so quickly or if it was simply a faulty alternator. and could it be anything else causing the voltage to drop so much.
