Cheap parts!

Hi all I'm onto a 1969 sportsroof(the one in the picture) For 2 years I've been getting small parts here and there some stuff that I've gotten has been very cheap looking parts that were nothing like the Ford ones the door handle cups where even made of plastic not metal.

In the many catalogs that I'm using I see the same parts for different prices for different companies. So I don't want to keep wasting my time and money what parts carrier has the good stuff? What companies are most of you all using?

What about the stuff made over seas how can you tell?

Look for "Ford original tooling" thats your best bet, lots of companys make some good stuff, but also they can make alot of bad stuff, just ask on the forums before you buy, theres a chance someone allready bought one on the site and they can give you a little info about the item.

yes I see a lot of that brand Ill try to buy it when I see it. but the whole original tooling thing that is what the Plastic door cups said on the catalog yea they look the same but are not metal.

I bought $10k in new parts to completely rebuild my car from the frame up, sourcing the parts from three different vendors: LMM, MU, and NPD. No difference in the quality of the sheet metal. No matter where it came from, it was crap.

Unless you have original ford tooling, the sheet metal is absolute junk. I got one door from NPD (crap) and another from Mustangs Unlimited (also junk). Front fender and rear quarter panel from Laurel Mountain Mustang (both badly fitting crap).

Interior parts were better. I got a carpet and upholstory from LMM which were ok but the seat foam was crap.

Rear quarter trim panels costing $110 each (also from LMM) were junk.

Most of the stuff I got was just poorly made chinese stuff. Really a bummer.

I always check eBay for NOS or quality used OEM parts before buying from the major vendors. Until recently, that was more out of necessity, as many parts aren't/weren't available for my years (71-73) - which is now improving. One experience with a Scott Drake part - "Mustang" fender logo did not match original logo ("g" was substantially different) - I ended up buying NOS off eBay.
