Cheap way of getting rid of Cats

To make a long story short my cats have been breaking up for awhile, normaly they only sound bad when I get a bad batch of gas and they see some heat. So today after doing some tuneing and running hard they did it again so I get pissed off and start looking at x-pipes and h-pipes. They are alittle more price than what I hoped, so I was wondering if anyone just sells pipes that I can put in place of my cats (I am an emissions inspecter and state inspector ) so screw the ozone and screw spending hundreds of dollars. ANyone know who makes pipes to replace the stock cats, or know what pipe diameter I could buy and rig into place. Thanks!

Just looking at the title, I didn't think you were talking about catalytic converters...

I guess you could have some pipe welded in and the cats removed. Or you really could ghetto rig it by cutting the cats off, get some 2.25 pipe at pepboys and u-clamping the pipe on, if it leaks get some muffler stop leak and put it in there. Doesn't Pace Setter or Summit or somebody like that sell a H pipe for about $110, it would be alot easier, better, and probally cheaper when all is said and done.

Haha, at least I'm not the only one. I saw the title and immediately thought "how about a .22?".

You could always take a rod and knock out the honeycomb inside the cats, just leave them hollow.

I don't advise getting rid of the catalytic converters. On the other hand here's a great suggestion for how to get rid of a cat LOL!!

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CLEAN YOUR TOILET

Instructions on how to clean your toilet

1. Put both lids of the toilet up and add 1/8 cup of pet shampoo to the water
in the bowl.

2. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.

3. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both lids.
You may need to stand on the lid.

4. The cat will self agitate and make ample suds. Never mind the noises that
come from the toilet, the cat is actually enjoying this.

5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a "power-wash" and
"rinse."

6. Have someone open the front door of your home. Be sure that there are no
people between the bathroom and the front door.

7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both lids.

8. The cat will rocket out of the toilet, streak through the bathroom, and
run outside where he will dry himself off.

9. Both the commode and the cat will be sparkling clean.

both of these are good suggestions. h-pipes are cheap and should also improve the tone of your car. more tone=

God, whatever you do, don't do that. I did it with mine and it made the exhaust sound like @ss. All hollow cats do are amplify the sound of the exhaust pulses at cat nearest the collector (which sounds like a leaky exhaust all the time) and increase the already bad drone you'll have with an aftermarket exhaust (if you've got one installed).

Don't be a cheapskate. O/R H-pipes can be had for almost nothing now, do it right the first time!

me and a buddy just cut the cats off my car, and welded in some new 2.25" pipe for the 2nd set of cats

we left the 1st set of cats on because it was gonna be too much of a pain to bend the pipe and whatnot

sounds a million times better then stock :G

On my ol' 91 I just gutted them. I think the fronts were easy. The rear I had to cut the pipes, gut the cats, then reweld the pipes. My 90 just has an off-road H-pipe.

I personally think that it's a waste to gut the cats, you still only end up with a 2 1/4 exhaust and if you need the pipe for emissions or even to sell to recoop some of your money it's worthless. Also like stated above Off road pipes are so cheap now that it is silly to go through that kind of effort. My 2 cents

Im going into the poor college student stage of my life so I was allready getting ready to cut back on costs. I work at a ford dealership as a technician so I will have a lift. I guess I should just keep on searching for a cheap o/r H or X pipe, anyone got a used on? Thanks guys, everytime I drive my sporty I am greated with a rattle of breaking up cats and boy do dieing cats make aweful sounds.
