cheapest alum head?

haha...if you want cheap try ebays knock offs.

LOL, when I read the tread title that's the same thing I thought of before I even clicked the link. I actually wonder how some of those heads would work, but not enough to try them out myself.

You could try getting in on this auction for a set of Y303s: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GT40...0QQihZ017QQcategoryZ33617QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I got my Y303s from eBay for $700. While not a killer deal they were already cleaned up and ready to bolt on. In the auction I listed above it looks like at a minimum they need to be sent to a machine shop to be cleaned up to check for wear. They aren't exactly clean looking.

i saw that auction earlier and it is prolly a decent deal seeing it has stud conversion and comes with rockers---still a bit rich for my blood.

You know notching the pistons is easy.

I ahd Edelbrock Victor Jr's on my car with a very large cam. All I had to do was flycut the pistons. Really, its not too hard.

That way you wount have to worry if the heads will work with stock pistons.

if i was staying n/a there is no doubt i would break out the grinder and go to town

but due to recent events i am looking for something a little more lower rpm friendly

Ben, I don't know why you don't just keep what you have. My cousin is running 58cc AFR's on his KB '94GT without an issue. He runs a SLIGHLTY, and I mean SLIGHTLY thicker than stock head gasket from ROL, but that's it. Your intake charge temps should be a lot lower than his even if you run a decent amount of boost. I say keep what you have unless you find that they absolutely will not work. Even with a 58cc head you are still in the mid 9:1 range.

i hear ya paul, and i ran a vortech on those heads for a bit.

my main deal is i'm gonna pull the heads and do cometics and studs as well as put in a diff cam. i'm the kind of guy that likes to shake things up whenever possible.

i was worried about my budget with this build, but it looks like i will have enough to buy some quality stuff and have enough left for a dart block---no internals yet, but its a start.

i found the dart pro 1 heads for $1050 with 1.94's so it looks like i might go that route. they have 62 chambers vs the edel performers in that $ range that have 60's

btw i have noticed some heads that take ped rockers are claiming pretty stout max lift numbers----.600 for the holley's, .575 for edel performers

If I ever do another motor and go alum. heads I will 110% NOT go ped. rockers...I dont care if I build a budget-ish alum. headed combo it will get stud mounts.

have you thought about a custom cam? If you had alittle overlap it would help bleed off some of the comp.. I would think with a custom for the combo to maxamize everything else it would still make good power for less than another set of heads.
