I think this would be a good sticky , anyways, list a few of the cheapest routes to get the sought-after 300rwhp. This will be a good reference to alot of beggining modders and everyone else.
Don't foget to add the things usually forgot like bigger fuel injectors, etc.

You mean the explorer gt40p heads, and explorer intake. The block them selves are the same.

I would assume they are the same to be a 5.0 the bore & stroke must be the same or close enough to round up or down.

yes, get an explorer motor, and a good cam. It may not be exactly 300, but with a good tune it will be damn close. one guy has run a 12.4 with one in his vert, forgot his name.

There is no such thing as a 'CHEAP' route to 300 rwhp. Unless of course you consider at $4-5 grand as cheap! I would say the least expensive option is to purchase a used supercharger.

matters how good you are mechanically..

It can be made real cheap if you do the labor yourself..

my combo I'm doing now should be able to hit it and I've payed less then 1500 for all of the H/C/I

GT40p's milled to 10:5 + compression ratio
sent through a CNC machine, and hand ported exhaust side.. 700 dollars for the whole deal..
Typhoon intake (slightly ported lower) to clean up the lowers done by myself.. with a edelbrock 65mmthrottlebody..
B cam with 1.7 rockers.. got that whole set up used for 250 bucks..

theres odds and ends that I'm sure will add up as well but so far its a nice budget build.. keep the lift around .500 with the P heads and get everything else to support it and you got yourself a stout combo.. for less then half as much as a custom combo..

Hoping to pull 300rwhp

You make a lot of valid points and I see where you are coming from

An important thing to consider when putting a plan in place to make low budget HP is matched parts for a combo that work well together. You can find some really good deals on used parts but sometimes you just have to be patient about it.

One of the greatest ways to save money comes from having the ability to do the work yourself.
